Ok i purchased the following headlights below

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2417418889

the thing is all the writeups i have seen are for the 9005/9006 setup. would i be able to wire this directly to the old headlights since it comes with a wiring harness or do i need to purchase additional components. Also are these the parabolic freeforms that i have heard about or are they just bmw projectors with h7 bulbs. i am wondering because i remember reading that the freeforms needed more cutting and modification to install. any help would be appreciated.

Although they don't provide much in the way of info, I don't think for that price, those are the ZKW/Parabolic Freeforms. But then again, maybe they're just getting them for a "rock-bottom" price. What do I know?? Anywayz, if the lens is glass and NOT plastic, then you've got the good ones. As for wiring, I'm suspecting they'll wire up similar to how the 9005/9006 setup does. The only thing to keep in mind there, is that our harnesses only have 3 wires - one for high beam, one for low beam, and one for ground. You can darn near wire up ANY headlight configuration using that as a base. It don't get any easier. And yeah, you're right about the freeforms needing more cutting, as the housing itself is a bit larger in back that the US-spec lights.

the price isnt bad since it includes the angel eyes. i wanna see what the chrome surrounding looks like on our cars. post pics as soon as you get them on!

oh.......... wiring should be similar as 9004/5, you have to cut and solder the new wires together. if it comes with a harness then you are good to go

Are you planning to install yours anytime soon? Since we live in the same town we can hit up installing it at the same time. Man i thought i was going to be the only one in cherry hill that would have these. oh well. all i know is that they should look great once i get them on. when i recieve them ill get more info out. what tool/tools would you recommend to do the cuts with? im going to have to pick some stuff up before i start this project ie soldering gun etc. Any suggestions for stuff that i would need or stuff that would help would be appreciated.

i just got my bmw headlights in today. they look fantastic and all but i think install is going to be "fun" to say the least. they are the glass zkw headlights because they have the six lines, look deep as far as the back goes and all the other distinct charachteristics. but because of this its going to be a pain in the rear to install. so basically its a double edged sword. i heard it only took some of you 2 hours to install from other posts. Do you have any advice as to how to expediate the process ie things or ways to make brackets etc. any help would be appreciated.

The headlights look to be european spec headlights and if they are like what I have (inPRO) they are just a little wider than Us spec headlights. The only thing that i had to do was cut a very small amount of the grill on both sides. You cant even notice that i had to cut them at all.

i dont think the pics do justice i will take pics once i do the install. it looks more deep in the back as well as wider in the front. looks like a lot of cutting and hopefully not a lot of glue stick.

lots of custimization
I ordered a similar pair to these to replace the ZKW parabolics I bought and chose not to install b/c of the size. Got them yesterday and guess what. They are the same size... [Groan] The problem is the radiator support, which will have to be cut through entirely in order to allow enough space to mount the light.

I am toying with the idea of removing all the plastic covering at the back of the housing. I took my car to a shop and we removed one stock headlight. There appeared to be no way to avoid cutting through the support. If I am wrong here, or someone has had experience mounting this particular light, please pm me or post. I wanted to do a write up on mounting but it looks like I'm going to need some seriours help. This is not something you can tackle with a dremel. : (

Any ideas or does anyone know of a good shop/body person in MN?

Chris, others...

The US-Spec BWM conversion is usually done with the brackets removed from the rear of the light. I am looking to order some ZKW's in a few... but have not seen them in person yet, so I can not guage the dimensions compared to my US-Spec set up. Anyway, does the problem with fitment appear to be with the bracket in the rear, or the actual housing? Can the black housing in the rear to cover the lights be removed without compromising protection from moisture? I know that for people with the stock air intake, fitment can be difficult on the driver's side for the lowbeam. I am personally wondering about space for an HID kit. Let me know what you find, encounter, etc. possibly we can all help each other, and perhaps get a writeup...

For the U.S. spec installation you are supposed to save the headlight bracket, but with the euro spec you can't fit it in there. If you do take off the back of the light housing off, make sure no water can reach it because if water gets back there it can cause problems.

The Euro spec ZKW style is problematic because you must also figure out a way to remove all or most of the radiator support. Keep in mind this is not a 2 hour project and you will need some fairly advanced tools. I think I will have to take mine to a shop to make it work.

-Good luck!

anyone feel the need to upgrade OEM wire harnesses for the E36 headies...i fear that just with the upgradable blue 55w hallogens in stock headlights melts the plug into the back opf the light regularly......anyone experiwence that with new e36?
