Why me?

I need help. When I had the alternator rebuilt, I decided to clean up my intake. I took it off (first mistake... ) and went through hell getting the gaskets to put it back on. Finally got it on, and it runs like crap. I messed up the gasket when I put it back on, so I need another one. The main problem is that the car revs up by itself when I start it. I think it's trying to commit suicide. Anybody know what the problem is?

well if the gaskets are messed up you have a vacuum leak so the engine is going to run like crap/funny. fix the leak, then work from there

Please tell me you blocked the intake with a clean rag (to prevent debris from entering engine) before you started chipping at gasket material.

I cleaned out my intake and the gasket was waste , my local auto store did not have the gasket , i bought liquid gasket and sealed it worka fine for me . For the revs going up , mine use to do it alot , i used 93 gas went back to 87 works fine now . only when i put on the ac or defrost only does it rev up a little , goes from 700 rpms to 1000 rps does any one know why would the car rev up when turning on any of those two things. One thing , i got the car from my brother , he had work done to the ac to work , i have to turn it on with a seperate switch . anyway thats how I corrected my rev problem .

Yeah, after my car started rev'ing by itself I stopped using 87, 89 and now I just use 91 or if it's available 93 and haven't had the problem since.

It idles up when you turn on any power robbing device so that ot can provide enough power. It's called the Idle Up Circuit on most cars.
