Tranny Conversion

Seems like there is a lot of interest in this topic as well as the BMW headlights. I converted my car from an automatic to a 5-spd. the question: was it worth it? well, it depends. You see, i had a lot of money invested on my car at the time of the conversion, so to sell it would have been a waste of money. I'd figure i convert it. (if you haven't spent that much $$ on the car, then it would be worth it to sell your car and buy a 5-spd) I mean to convert your car, you are paying to depriciate it because the auto is worth more than the 5-spd.(whatever floats your boat)

I spent about $2500 for the used junkyard parts and labor. It took almost two months to do, because evertime the mechanic turned around, there was a part missing, like brackets and things like that. When it was finally done, i had problems with the tranny. About a month after, the linkage inside the tranny broke because the tranny was from an 89 max. I did not know about the different gear ratios between the 89 and the 91. (be careful) anyway, i hope this helps

BTW, some junkyards warranty there transmissions for 3months and some for a year. I found a rebuilt one that was warrantied for a year, so i didn't have to pay for the second tranny. anyway, i hope this helps.

thanx.....so far...i have all the mods listed in my signature....do u consider my car to be hooked up enough to do something so drastic?....BTW...od u still have any problems w/ your tranny?....and do u think that it would be a better bet to just order all the parts from a nissan dealer, rather than to go to a junkyard?...even though it would be more expensive....would it be worth having all new parts?
