GXE mods

Does the cold air intake and the Y-pipe mods that can be done to the SOHC present any problem with wearing out the other engine components (ie: valves, electronics etc.)

I have heard that as much as 20 hp could be had with the combination of these two mods????

IMO engine wear is only based on how the driver treats the car, not the mods. those mods will be fine, the Y-pipe is a big improvement! you won't see 20fwhp though.

Best GXE mod is a for sale sign in the front window.

I did the worlds best and cheapest mod today . . . increase tire pressure.

if you're tire pressure is right then that will make a difference of almost 0.3 on the skidpad.

i think everyone on here with a gxe either wants to sell it for a VE or do a 5 speed swap and then put a turbo in it. i know thats what i wanna do not the VE part.

or...... not. A built VG is nothing to contend with. A VE is a whiney, picky, b****y engine that happens to make more power stock.

<-- has both, sees merits of both.

There's the people that want to, and then there is the ones who actually do it

If it were actually cost effective, most people with GXE's would do this. But putting a lot of money into a swap and worrying about a junkyard transmission is not sensible for most. Don't get me wrong though, if I can find a good rebuilt 5spd for cheap, I'll find the money to buy it.

Exactly. Once I finish school, I will be doing the for sale sign mod on my car. A black VQ 5spd will be mine... MEVI, JWT ECU, CAI, exhaust, and suspension = Not to mention ~14.5 1/4 mile times.

oh i think its very cost efective we got a 5spd at the junk yard for 150$ and im pretty sure we could have found somewhere to rebiuld it for under 1k$ then another 300$ for all the other stuff and your still under 1500$ of course thats if you install it yourself i dont think ive ever seen a auto rebiuld for under 2k$

the swap is cost effective if you're faced with doing a rebuild on your auto. i think the entire swap can probably be done for under 1,000. my max's tranny was rebuilt 40K miles ago so swapping a 5spd when my tranny is still good isn't cost effective and that's what i meant. btw, i spent 1,500 on my rebuild.
