Basically, it doesn't work. Sometimes it'll turn on, and then it'll shut off (actually, it doesn't shut off: it stops playing but everything is still readable on the display) and random moments.... is this common for other people's BOSE systems?

Hey, these Bose systems were specially built by Bose for Nissan, and had a problem with displays and the radio cutting in and out. It was a common failure. You can either replace it with an aftermarket or take it out and bring it to your local Nissan dealer and they send it out. It takes about 4 weeks and then they send it back. I sent mine out and it tool 3 weeks and costed $100. and when they sent it back, it was actually a newer model! But it seems like some people don't like the Bose, I think it's pretty loud and good enough for me.Originally posted by MikeKid

I yanked out the stock head unit as soon as I bought mine. Now all of my stock bose speakers are screwed up. Bose bites. What I can't wait for is all of the Bose in my QX4 to crap out. Oh, well, I'll replace that, too.
I might be selling my stock deck (which hasn't been used in about 3-4 years) but I have to find it in the garage. I also have the stock deck from a 95 pathfinder in there somewhere, too.

Well, what exactky is the problem? HU, Speakers, amp???
And I heard if you want to replace one thing of the system, you have to replace it ALL.... speakers, HU, amp, and wires

You can replace the HU and keep the speakers/amps. Some have just hooked them up but they make an adapter that takes makes your wires a line level for the bose amps.
If you want to replace the speakers and amps you do have to go to an aftermarket HU though.
Your problem sounds like it may be the bose HU though since its all the speakers that quit working. If it was buzzing or one speaker would quit then I would say amps but since all work then quit I would say HU. Either get it rebuild, get a new bose HU or buy an aftermarket one with the wiring harness.
