speaker questions.

1st. Are the door speakers on a non bose 4X6? crutchfield says yes but I saw in the FAQ's that a plate needs to be made for the door to accept 4X6's.

2nd. Are the door speakers amped or will they work fine when I install the new radio?

3rd. Should I run new wires to the rear speakers bypassing the amps or can I just use the original wires and disconnect the amp?

4th. Will the factory rear speakers work without the amps?

Thanx. The search didn't help my questions.

2.they will work fine
3.not sure but i hooked the turn on lead from crutchfield to the turn on for the rear amp...but check with someone else on that cause i'm not sure.
4.probably only if u wire it to the new cd player

If you're installing a new head unit then yes, bypass the amp. All you need to do is remove the connecter from the amp(which is in the trunk on the left side)and cut/twist some wires together. Here's how to do it:

once you remove the amp, you'll have a connector with a dozen or so wires. the ones you need to connect are:

Large/ Small
----------------------
Green/ Black-pink
Yellow/ black-yellow
Orange/ Orange
Blue/ Light Green

For particular left/right speaker identification, James Lofton (Jaybird180) supplied this info for me recently.
Yellow L+
Yel/Grn L-
Green R+
Lg Orange R-
Thanks, James!

These are the same wires you unplug from the amp. just cut them about
2-3" away from the end of the connector, so you can reconnect the amp
whenever you sell the car. There will still be a few wires left on the
connector (power, ground, etc) just leave those connected to the thing,
that way you don't have to worry about loose power wires hanging around
back there. It will all seem a lot clearer when you get back there
inside the trunk. btw, the easiest way to do this is to just grab a
handfull of butt connectors and get on your back inside the trunk. just
leave a leg hanging out so someone doesn't come along and shut you in!

I think I might just run NEW wires to the rear for speakers. I have some Audio wire that is thicker then the stock wire. Do you think it's a good idea or should I just use the factory and bypass the amp?

New wire (which you want to be 14ga or thicker for better signal transfer) is ALWAYS better than the OEM stuff, which is usually 22ga or smaller

New wire it is. Although I think it is 16 gauge it is still better than factory.

All I was really worried about was if the rear speakers would work without the factory amps. I don't have the $ for new rear speakers right now.

If you have the bose system, you have the 6x9s...all you gotta do is open the trunk and look up.

How much of a job is it to rewire the sound system? Would it mean rewiring all 4 speakers?
