Old Car noise!! get it out!!

The maxima i have 1990 GXE is started to sound old. It doesn't have that youthful grr to it. It sounds like my parents old old buick century!!!!!! I hope you guys know what i mean by the old car noise. What can i do to fix it. The sound is mostly generated on the passenger side. SO i think it might be the belts. But how can belts make this kind of noise?

So what do you guys think?

non of you guys have any old car noises?
Its a 10+ year old cars. I'm sure one of you guys must have an old car noise so you can describe it. I guess you all keep your cars in tip top condition.

Check your Y-Pipe. It might have a leak. Slide under the front end of the car behind the engine and front wheels. Find the exhaust pipe that runs from the engine to the catalytic converter and look at the flex section. It is made up of this woven fabric type stuff. Chances are it might have a hole burned in it. This will make the car sound like crap + much louder than it should be. I've been driving my car for a year like this, I'm saving up for the warpspeed Y-Pipe though.

I know exactly what noise you're referring to. It almost sounds like sandy water flowing through a pipe (well thats what it sounds like to me), but it happens only as you push the throttle and accelerate. I don't know what causes it though

Yeah, i guess that is the sound. You describe better then me.
It's not a hole in the y pipe because it doesn't sound like the car is going to blowup or a sound of a getto muffler.

I have a 1989 Maxima. And it makes all kinds of sounds. One of them is the old timing belt which makes a constant screeching sound, another sound is the sound of water/sand flowing in a pipe, and the last is the steering control and/or brakes sound. Most of the stuff havent been changed in a long time though, I have got a new 2000 Maxima now, so havent got much time for my old car.

That is this sand water sounding thing that happens when you push on the accelerator?
I'm going to do some research. I don't want a geezer sounding car.

Yeah, but it only happens for quite a while, it goes away after 10 mins of riding or so.

get a y-pipe and hi-flow exhaust for it and all of the sounds will be drowned out by loudness.

I FINALLY FOUNT THE SOURCE OF THE NOISE!!!!!!!

When i was changing the oil i saw a pipe going from the engine to the muffler. A quarter away from the engine theres this pipe but it has a whole bunch of wolven much on it. The Metal mesh seems to be rusted from time and it has a crack on it that has gotten bigger thus the sound getting louder. HAHAHA.

Ok now it the question. What the He** is that thing?
Is that what you call a stright pipe or is it apart of it? I was thinking about getting a new muffler and what ever that goes with it to get some performance boast. Should i just change everything now? I was a boast but i don't want anything thats lound. Just a low quiet nice hum.

Are you guys proud of me? I change the oil all by myself. =o)
