24 valve DOHC engine info needed

I just picked up a 92 max with the DOHC engine in it, it will start but is only running on the front 3 cyl, the back bank in not fireing.I can unplug all 3 of the rear coils with no difference in how it runs.Has anyone else ever had this problem or know where to start looking for the problem ?

Thanks, Mark

Sounds like you might need new ingition coils, but I didn't think the engine could run off less than 5. I do know that the ingition coils have been know to fail on the VE, every now and again.

yes i can unplug 3 of mine also and it will still run remember it could be your injectors also i would test the coils first and check resistance on the injectors and the coils to make sure

I had that problem after doing some work on the old Max- my problem was that the bottom harness connector to the power transistor was slightly off, just enough not to have clicked and locked. Cleaned off the terminals and reseated, worked great. I hope yours is an easy fix... the PT is on the driver's side of the engine, two rather large connectors, one on top and bottom. It's right behind the cam postion sensor.
