Stay Awake!

What up max-freaks? I just want to say be safe out there on any long hauls or raod-trips you dudes/dudettes might be making this summer. I was heading home the other night(2 hours away) and started falling asleep. I woke up to rumble strips and car horns....not a fun thing to do. So grab a Mt. Dew or something before you leave

drive safe

you need to do more than that if you're tired. step 1 is to STOP THE CAR. if you're drowsy at all, Mt. Dew isn't going to help you. you need to stop and get some sleep, or at minimum take a walk around.
have another person ride with you to talk to you and keep you awake. two people staying awake for long periods of time is better than one person waking up with a car on top of them.

Matt93SE.... Been there, done that.... when my username was Matt93GXE.

Cold air and music wont cure it. its a temp fix, your body gets used to it, and it will, make it self shut down. And there is nothing you can do about it, you cannot control your body, your brain does, Best thing to do is the obvisous, what is already said, STOP THE CAR AND SLEEP.

Never told this to anyone, but on the lie once going home last year, i fell asleep, and all i knew was that i felt my max left side get lifted off the ground and then i hear honking. The thing was that i litteraly, dont know how , i climb the wall since its curved. and when i felt the car go up, i woke up and pulled to the side a little. Next thing i hear is honking from behind me and i thought i landed on someone. but it was the guy trying to make certain i was ok. it was cold and rainy night. late night no one around. I pulle over to see if i did any damage and all i saw was mudd and dirt all on the inside of the fender well. Needless to say ever since that day if i get tired, i pull over and get some coffee and sleep a little, like an hour. THat night i will always remember. Plus the rumble stripe tore my steel belt on my left wheel. thank god he was looking over me, btw that was my old vg

Kinda how dogs do, huh?

But seriously, I remember when I was in Germany, I was driving home from a rave early in the morning and dozed off behind the wheel of my car for just a second. But that's all it took! I found myself all up in some farmer's cornfield at 65 MPH!

So, for the love of all that's good in the world... PULL YO @$$ OVER AND GET SUM FLOCKIN' REST!!!!

some people never learn though. I have a good friend that totaled 3 (yes 3) cars out by falling asleep. He worked 2 jobs and one was a late night job and all 3 times he fell asleep going home after the late shift job.

1 camaro, 1 turbo mitsu something (before eclipses), and 1 mustang. He didnt get hurt in any of them but he sure tore the cars up.

stop and take a walk at the minium...getting a quick power nap is also good.
I fell asleep going home one morning after a 12 hour night shift. woke up looking under a semi and just pulled away as his back trailer tires ran over my rear quarter panel (on the drivers side)!! Needless to say he still spun me out and I slide across some grass and came to rest at the base of a hill in some trees. Totaled the car but hell it was a 87 dodge colt with over 400,000 miles on it so no biggy there. I just had a couple bruises.

that wasnt much fun so now I make sure I have someone with me or stop when I start getting drowsy!

Stay Awake

Listen, I know alot of people have their own remedies for staying awake, but listen , it's not worth taking the chance.

Listen to Matt and take a quick nap, trust me it's worth it. My cousin lost a husband because of him falling asleep behind the wheel and went head on into a truck. I was also on vacation in the Carribean with my best friend and after meeting with some girls we met a club we decide to drive to the beach, he fell asleep at the wheel while I'm in the back seat with other girl (you know!) and totaled the car by putting it into a tree. That was the good part. If he had missed the tree, we would have run off a very, very, very big drop down into God knows where. At 4 a.m. I was grateful for the tree and rental car insurance.

Call whoever you have to and let them know you are running a little late and grab a nap. It's not worth it to you, others in the car or your car to be in an accident.

I don't post much, but this is some serious stuff. Stay awake and alert.

Good to hear from those that made it through similar situations.

All the best,

Ron

Allow me to chime in on this subject. Years ago, I worked as a DJ/Light technician as a second job. After driving from home to near the WI border, then back to the gig in Rosemont, working, and carting the Equipment back to the guy's crib, I was bushed and had 68 miles to go before I was home. Well, in the course of my travels home, I almost didn't make it because I fell asleep behind the wheel 6 times. One of those times almost planted my a$$ into the 95th St. Bridge on the Dan Ryan Expressway as well as damn near caused a major collision between myself and the car in the next lane.

After that harrowing experience, my a$$ was woke until I got home. Two weeks later, I resigned.

In addition, having relatives in the police and fire departments who have to scrape up the mess after something like that will wise your a$$ up in a hurry.

If you are too tired to drive, don't push yourself. Pull over and get some rest.
