Yup, I've done it, except I didn't use component speakers. I had some Alpine 4"X6" plate speakers that I put in there. My friend and I modified the pods to hold the plate speakers and they fit in there perfectly. Its good too, because the stock pod holds the speakers at an upwards angle so that the sound is directed toward the driver rather that your legs. They sound good, but eventually I am gonna go with some component speakers. Anything is possible to fit in the pods with a little modification.

YEAH, I ALSO PUT 5 1/4 IN MY DOORS THEY ARE THE GS AUDIO COMPONENT SET AND THEY ROCK. JUST A LITTLE SHAVING AND SLIGHT MODIFICATION BUT THEY FIT. YOU MIGHT HAVE TO FILL SOME OF THE GAPS LEFT BEHIND BECAUSE THE SHAPE OF THE BOSE YOU WILL BE TAKING OUT, BUT I HAVEN'T NOTICE ANY LOSS OF SOUND QUALITY. BEATS THE HELL OUT OF PAYING A PROFESSIONAL TO MAKE PLATES FOR YOUR DOOR!

When I worked at a stereo shop a couple of years ago, I did two Maximas with components and still used the pods (one used Eclipse, and the other used Boston Acoustic). I bypassed the amps, and had no problems with mounting the BA's or the Eclipse. I think I could only use 3 holes to mount the speakers, but there was no rattle. I mounted the crossovers just above the kickpanel in one install. The other install was tricked out, and I ended up putting the crossovers on a custom-made fiberglass baffle board in the trunk. As for the tweets, I mounted them on the included suspension bracket with the Eclipse comps, and I flush mounted the BA's just under where the side-view mirror is.

I already had some 4" from my wrecked '87 Max so I put them in the front. I made a metal plate that covered the triangular hole and just turned my 4" sideways (into a diamond) and put in the 4 screws. I know if my MTX 4" sound good then a larger speaker would be louder! I'm still trying to figure out that 6x9 in the front thing though!?

well i did it

I went out and bought an MTX component set and and mounted the 5 1/4's in the original pod and the mounted the tweets in the doors. it sounds and looks sweet. I highly recommend putting components in. they were on sale for 90 bucks. Ill post some pics some other day
