After the 3rd gen, there were no more differing engines in the SE or GXE models. The VG30E (GXE) and VE30DE (SE) were replaced in the maxima by the VQ30DE. 3rd gen SE's and 4th gen models had the same hp rating. I'm not sure about torque ratings... perhaps someone else could enlighten us?

This sucks. 18.5??? That means I'm getting about 17 mpg. What is everyone else getting out of the VE.

The torque rating for a 4th Gen VQ is 205ft/lbs.

How are you calculating your gas mileage? In my '94GXE, I get around 24 to 27 MPG. In my '92SE, I get about 25 to 28 MPG.

I'm not the original poster, but I did post the 17mpg above. The way I calculated it, was that I usually get about 315 to 325 miles to the tank. If I divide that by the 18.5 gallons that the tank holds it's around 17mpg. Right?? Well, I just fixed a vaccum leak on Wednesday so hopefully that will help.

Nope you dont divide by 18.5

basically what happens is that the gas tank rated capacity is 18.5, but if you ever driven you max to the limits and actually had the max turn it self off due to an empty fuel tank, its not empty, why? Go to a gas station at your next fill up and see how many gal you pumped in, then reset the odometer. Now drive until you feel that your gonna run out of gas, ie idiot light comes on, and the engine doesnt rev past 2500 rpms.lol yes i have done this on my vg, go and fill up you see that it filled up at 16.8 or even 17.4 gal. where is the other 1-2 gal. well its in the tank and in the hoses. The thing is that the fuel pump has a device that sucks gas like a skimmer that floats, once that skimmer cant reach the bottom of the tank then the fuel wont go to the engine.

now that being said. I filled up once on my ve. 15.8 gal at the pump and i just did a 380 mile trip

380/15.8

that is 24 mpg.

see

now in your case 325miles/ 15 gal = 21 mpg.

just try it and you will see.

OK, that makes more sense. I was actually coming back to this thread to post the question, to why my tank will only take about 15 gallons at the pump. lol

ps. I just got through reading the other thread about you injector. Glad to see your VE is running strong again. Like I said earlier, I fixed a vaccum leak earlier this week and now if I hit it hard at a stop sign, I'm getting squealing from my nitto's.

see told yah. but you still have about 1 maybe 2 gal left before the max starts to run out of gas, and possibly turn off..

[moderator] Its not safe to run your maxima's fuel pump with low gas. ITs also stupid to try and even see how far you can go before you have to fill up, you can 1- get stuck in the middle of no where, 2- cause and accident or harm others if your max was to suddlenly loose power, 3-That is why they made idiot lights, just for those idiots.[/moderator]

SO yep you get about 21/22 mpg i was getting 16-17 and that was because of my faulty injector. Now i cannot wait to fill up and see how much she has improved. last time was my all time record on any cat i driven. 380 to the tank( could be like 410) if it wasnt for sitting in traffic for 2 hours, and letting everyone test drive my maxima.

380 would be lovely. I'm thinking about getting my injectors cleaned, since I'm at 160k, I figure it can't hurt. Then maybe I'll be in that 380 range.

Here is the proper way to acuratly calculate gas milage:

Go fill up and reset trip odomoeter. Drive normally until you fill up again. Take the miles that you have traveled divided by the number of gallons you put it to fill up.

Miles Traveled / gallons = MPG

Do this several times and calculate an average. This is your true MPG.

yep if you want the average. then add the number of mpg and then divide by the number of fill ups

etc.. 22 mpg +21 mpg+ 24 mpg + 19mpg=86 mpg

now divide by 4= 21.5 mpg
