So I was crawling under the car looking around and I found this steel box with slots in it behind the driver side rear wheel. I couldn't figure out what it was for so I took some pics and maybe somebody can help me. Here are the pics:

Outflow valve?
I believe it equalizes pressure between the inside and outside of the car. If it were not there, when you'd close your door with the windows up the windows may shatter.

I'm probably wrong though

nope, Jim's right.. there's a rubber flap inside it to release pressure form inside the car whenever you slam the trunklid, doors, etc.

simply a vent for the car is all it is.

 

so if you seal that vent and someone is sitting in the car and you slam the door...their head should explode right??

 

 

their ears might hurt a little

 

I think blood will start running out their orifices and they'll lose somewhere in the neighborhood of 30 IQ points! :P
