Jon, I'm interested in seeing how this project comes along as this tends to be a "touchy" subject for some orgy members.

Some "purists" tend to frown on the Altezza-type stuff on ANY gen of Maxima, as it takes away from the lines of the car. While the more brazen members embrace the difference and change this might bring. Me, personally, I kinda ride the fence on this issue. While different IS definately good, and I'd be down for some, I question the repercussions of "clearing out" your tail lights, where "JOHHNY LAW" is concerned.

well first of all there is nothing hard about making your lights look like that. All they did was take the tail lights from a 89-91 SE and broke the red inside out...imho that looks even worse than altezzas since you can see the bulb assy. in there and the red on the sides and the little square stays because there is no way of getting rid of it.

If you wanted to do it right it could be done. I could do it right but refuse to because I hate the clear "euro tails" look.

here is a hint though. Buy fiberglass, a pair of altezzas from some other car for the light donation, and some clear plexiglass. Anything is possible but some things just shouldnt be done.

If you do this please dont use chrome. Paint the inside part black and it will look ok but please no chrome. Of course its not my car so do whatever you want.

You DO realize those things are 100% illegal, don't you? a 16yo has enough problems to worry about just staying on the road, aside from making their car illegal with senseless, ugly mods that attract the attention of cops.
but do as you please.

bah, its tough love... besides like was said, the cops will hound you day in and day out. while Altezzas are DOT approved, those "euro" clears(like in the pic) are dead on illegal, but hell if you're set on doing it grab a heat gun and get to work. also do a seacrh, there is info from way back on how to do this.

Re: Re: quest for euro tails begins

anyone know what aftermarkert bulbs are DOT approved, if someone were to replace the clear tail light bulbs for red bulbs w/ the stock wattage is that considered illegal? what about blue colored bulbs in the corner lights but it gives out a really bright white color also with the stock wattage?

its still illgeal, since there are no reflectors. you can have as many "DOT" bulbs as you want, its still illegal.

Oh sweet Jesus... why oh why oh why would you ruin the beautiful rear end of the 3rd gen with one of those gawdy rice mods. But, again... your car. I just don't understand your need to fit in with the Honduh crowd. Only certain cars can pull off a Euro-clear or Altezza look, and the 3rd gen is not one of those cars.

And that's.... my $0.02...

My gawd

Irish, my man, go on and do what u want lead some of the rest of us towards some new mods for our cars. Personally I find nothing gorgeous about my stocked max, and God only knows if I ever will. I am personally sick of these people saying their ugly and Preaching their way to the rest of us. Hehe if I had all the manpower and the money I need to Mod my car I may find my Maxima great, maybe even something soo sick and wicked you stocked maxima look lovers will hurl at the sight of it. Until then Im lookin at some nice cars to drool over.

Clear tails are illegal, PERIOD- whether they're Altezzas or "euros". Most APC lights that you see on the road are NOT DOT approved, even though they have the markings and say they are.
