So my fuel pump on my '93 SE goes out. I take it in to get repaired and they tell me, after installing two aftermarket one's that, none of the aftermarket pumps like from Napa or autozone will work. The mechanic says I need to order an original one from the dealer. I'm not getting it repaired at the dealer so my mechanic won't profit any. Does this sound right to you guys???

 

I'd take it somewhere else...I've installed 2 aftermarket Walbro pumps on Maximas and they worked fine everytime. when you say not work, do you mean they don't even come on??

 

I was told there wasn't enough back pressure, so the fuel still wasn't getting to the engine. Also something about not having the proper voltage to the pump? I'm no mechanic so I have no idea what their talking about.

 

Has anyone ever changed there own fuel pump? Think mine crapped out last night. Thanks

 

I'm not sure...only thing would be to check if the lines were put back on right(they are easy to confuse) and if the wires were connnected right....I dunno, I would take it somewhere else is possible.

snowman, replaicng the fuel pump is pretty simple...remove the backseat, unbolt the fuel tank plate, unattach the hoses on the pump(don't mix them up), remove the pump assembly, remove the pump itself, replace with the new pump then put it all back together.

If the voltage is too low at the pump, that may be why the pressure is low. Maybe the fuel pump relay is bad. Get a wiring diagram and check for proper voltage at the relay.
