VG33E, in a Maxima?!

After a years worth of research, and more importantly, money, I've got the only (as far as I know) 3.3L maxima! I had a VG33E put in, as well as NISMO camshafts and a 5-spd tranny.

I'm still breaking it in right now, but it feels pretty strong. I will definitely have to wait for a dyno for any kind of hp predictions. We ran into quite a few problems with the swap, and it ended up being something of an amalgam between the vg30e and the vg33e. I'm using the VG33E heads and block, VG30E IM, exhaust manifolds, Crankshaft and peripherals.

I'll keep you guys updated, and can answer any questions you might have about the swap, but right now am just glad to have the car back, as it took 4 months to do.

Thanks for all of the help some of you gave me with this,
Miles

I don't Jeff, I'll have to check with Matthel and see if he got any. I'll take some here soon, and maybe put a video up.

There are a couple of issues that maybe you guys can help with: The engine makes a high pitched squeak that is dependant on engine RPM, and there seems to be much more road noise coming up from the tires. Matthel and I aren't sure about these problems, and are going to check on them after the break-in, but if anyone has an idea, please post it.

Not to be a pessimist, but according to edmunds.com, the VG33 makes 168HP and 196 ft-lbs of torque. Unless you are a whiz at engine swaps, why go through the trouble of swapping engines for 8HP and 14 ft-lb??

If that's at the flywheel, he's gaining 8 hp and 36 ft-lbs. If that stat is at the wheels, then

combine that torque with a mild to decently wild cam for the top-end and you've got one sweet *** Maxima... plus that .3L makes a BIG difference when building up a motor. can we say up and coming fastest N/A VG 3rd gen possibly...we'll see

Yeah, don't get me wrong, the SE isn't going anywhere. Its like a new car. Nicest stock paint and interior I've ever seen on a 3rd gen. I've just been looking for a crazy project... Its either this built up big, or a 240 built, or a classic - like your 'stang.

The VG30E in the maxima made 182 ft-lbs of torque, if I'm not mistaken. That would put the torque gain at 196 - 182 = 14 ft-lbs.

It's about a 10hp and 20lb/ft gain..then add the cams, the VG30E IM (which will make a difference over the VG33E), the 5-spd and my CAI, and we'll see where it's at. Just 350 miles to go

supercharge it?

since this engine in the frontier has already been supercharged, does it make it possible to supercharge this engine of even the vg30e while in the maxima? all we have to do is find the parts off of a frontier right?
