I own a 92 GXE. I had the distributor replaced about 4 months ago during a botched tune-up attempt. The rotor was fused on the distributor shaft, which was damaged when we tried to remove it. Anyway, new wires and plugs were put in, then the car was towed and a new distributor was installed. The car ran pretty well until about two weeks ago. Now its idle is pretty rough and its exelleration seems sluggish until it hits the higher RPMs.

I should mentin I took the car on two 1600 mile round trips after it was tuned up.

Does anybody have suggestions of what to look at first?

I should mention that my friend who was helping insisted the plugs came pre-gapped.

Sometimes best to re-trace your steps with the last things that were done -in this case check plugs, wires, cap and rotor. (although probably not the issue here) Then go on to things like vacuum leaks- (this could be it, since they are worse at low rpm). Mine was running real rough a couple weeks ago, and it was a bad injector- running on 5 cylinders.

Those are the things I would check first.

 

How do you check the injectors? Is there an easy way?

 

Visually inspect to make sure none are leaking. Then check resistance with an ohmmeter. Should read between 10-14 ohms for the VG version. Not sure on the VE.
