Fuel injector removal

Got the rail with injectors off my 93 GXE. I am able to twist the injectors but cannot remove then from the rail. Is there some kind of trick to this? At around $100 a pop I am hesitant to apply too much force and break the plastic. If it matters, they are "green dot" models with pink plastic housings where the plug goes on them. Perhaps they could be pushed out from the other (injector tip) side? Advice?

I used a vise, with the jagged jaws facing in. Applying gentle pressure with the vise, and rotating and pulling simultaneously on the rail, holding the rail close to the injector. I didnt damage any of them when doing it this way.

If you were to push the injectors out, you will definitly damage the pintle cap (plastic). There is an old post where I did this job and replaced all the seals. I would reccomend having all the injectors ultrasonically cleaned and back flushed, along with blueprinting. This way you know for sure that they are flowing properly.

Yep, that's the plan, have them "rebuilt", cleaned, etc. I assumed they had to be off the rail to send them in to the rebuilder. One is just totally clogged, no amount of Techron could get it working again. Thanks for your advice.

I was unable to remove my injectors by pulling on them. Try using WD40 and pulling them and be careful not to grip the connector too tightly, ... it is very brittle and will come to pieces on you.

What I had to do was "push" the injectors out. This way WILL... I repeat WILL break the pintle caps. The factory service manual tells you to NOT pull the injectors, but push them out. They don't tell you that you will smash the pintle caps. And let me tell you, the pintle cap is a very hard part to come by. But I found them.

Just try your best to spray it with WD40 and keep twisting it and hope it pops out. Only push it as a LAST resort. Everyone I've talked to has been able to pull them out. I was an extreme case. Mine were in there pretty tight.

I pulled mine out, but it was not easy. I ended up wrapping a towel around the top and then using channel locks to twist and pull. It eventually came out, and the towel helped prevent some damage to the plastic. Patience is the key, I think- and maybe some WD-40....they are definitely hard to get out.

Use the vise trick (Injector in vise, pull up while rotating on rail), with a shot of WD-40 and gentle, even pressure. If you have them cleaned and rebuilt, send them with your rail as well. My rebuilder needed the rail to do the pressure test. Make sure he pressure tests them well because my guy didn't do it that well and one of them leaked!
The o-rings are very easy to tear when the injectors are being pressed back in.

Good luck.

I used a q-tip and acetone to remove the old junk/varnish on the fuel rail and where the injector met the o-ring. Just dont get the actone on anything else. That old crud varnish is what cuts the o-ring upon re-insertion

I just took them down to the local shop that does injector rebuild work. They tried pulling them out and had the same problem. Finally the suggested WD40 soak then pull again. I told them if they try after that and break ONE, stop and call me. What a pain in the A$$. The saga continues....
