Need a pic of oem pws hose at top?!

After reading some posts I am curious to see at what angle the oem high pressure pws hose connects to the top mount. I know the oem one has a tab that sticks out to align it but the aftermarket ones do not. I'd like to try and see if my aftermarket one is close to the original pws hose position.

If anyone can post a pic of where and how the high pressure pws hose attaches near the strut tower on a vg max I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks in advance.

Hey thanks! I can kinda get the idea, If I had one of the top down on it I could get a better idea. Looks like you had some fun with your project!

depending if you have an SE or GXE, the GXE pws has a 90deg. bend, on one end and the SE does not.
I have an SE, so my tabs are straight. I bought my pws hose aftermarket w/out a tab. When I installed the hose, I just made sure the hose wasn't twisted TOO much and that it was as far away as possible from the engine so that the heat won't hurt the hose.

Good luck... sorry, I'm not rich enough to purchase a digicamera to take a pic of my max.

hey super32, that's not right....I just went through this and posted about it. My 90 GXE old hose was straight on BOTH ends, and even the CORRECT aftermarket hose(from Autozone) has the tabs on it. They sold me the one with the 90 degree bend, and I made it fit, but it is not what came off my car. Also, someone else replied to me and said that the 90 degree bend IS correct for the SE, but I don't know that for sure..

I foget about the bends on mine...

I don't remember what the bends were on mine, but I just replaced this hose recently. (Aside from lining up the bottom bolt during the re-install it was pretty easy.) The hose I bought had tabs on it. I bought it from Action Auto Parts.

Though this may not be any help, I just thought I'd mention it.

Thanks guys. I had mine replaced and it moans now like many others have complained about. I did jack up the front end and turn steering wheel side to side quickly for about 20min and got as many air bubbles out of the system as possible but the moan is now getting worse. I may bite the bullit and go for a new pump. Anyone ever use a napa pump as a replacement with any luck?

why do you think the pump is going bad?
It could be your rack-n-pinion..... I mean I don't want to jinx you, but at the same time I don't want you putting money into a new pump, then doing the manwork to install it, and then figuring out that it wasn't the pump.

Does the pws moan when you have it jacked up and you're turning the wheels? And when you do this, my Chilton's say to LIGHTLY TOUCH each endpoint of the pinion; meaning go all the way left and all the way right, but don't jam into each end, lightly turn the wheels into it.

Another thing to be careful is to not turn tooooooo hard or tooooo fast. When I did it toooooo fast and hard, my the tranny fluid started to "overfill" out of the canister.

Good luck man.

Yeah, I read that about bleeding the pws in the haynes also. The car steers fine but it moans all the time now right after I had the pws hose replaced. It moans even when you are not turning the wheels. Maybe its just the new hose? I've read a lot of posts where guys have the pws hose replaced and it moans afterwords and they then replace the pump. What are the symptoms of the rack going bad?

Thanks for the help!

I've never had to replace the rack & pinion (RAP) on my Max, but I've had a car that had it replaced.
The symptoms I remember was:
First: When I turn the wheels, the RAP starts to moan.
2nd: After a couple days of the moan, it starts to grrrrinnnndddd... that was because the pws fluid started to leak.
3rd: The steering wheel start to stick when turning.
4th: Turning just got difficult all together.
5th: pws fluid would just leak right out of the RAP.

Thats as good as I can remember.
But, i heard that the moaning from the RAP is common, and doesn't stand for any major steering problems. It just means that when the Max was made, Nissan didn't devote a lot of time to developing the pws system, let alone some other stuff, which is why there are 2 friggin types of pws hoses for the same car!!!!

Anyway, Good luck.
