Electrical Problem
Electrical Problem
Earlier this week I went out for pizza with some friends at Donatos. After we're done and I'm leaving in my max, I notice my instrument lights arent on. My friend followed me in her Z28. She tells me my front and rear running lights arent working either. I replace the tail lamp fuse and the problem goes away. Yesterday I was heading out to go bowling with some friends around 9:00pm and I notice the same lights are out again ::knocks on wood that he discovers it less than a mile down the road and avoids a ticket for no running lights and takes it home::. The fuse blew itself out like the last one. Anybod have any ideas where the short could be? I really dont want to have to take it to the dealership and be charged an arm and a leg, but I will probably end up taking it in sunday. For now it looks like I'm going to have to buy a couple of spare fuses until I can get it to the dealership. this sucks. in the past 8 months my max has self destructed various parts.
You have a short in your sidelight circuit (obviously...). Question: have you hooked up something recently - like a new head unit etc? This could be the easy answer as you may have tapped into a wrong wire.
From plenty of previous posts, it seems the tail light bulb holders periodically corrode - check here & see if anything's obvious. If so, clean up the contact & check to see fuse doesn't blow. If nothing in rears, check fronts. If you can't find anything obvious, try removing one light and check to see if fuse blows. If so, replace bulb & try the next one. As soon as fuse stops blowing, there's your problem (make sure you've got lots of fuses...).
Happy huntin'

I bet your lunch money that you installed a head unit recently, and didn't know what the orange wires went to. pull the head unit out and cap off the wires you didn't use, then the problem will go away.
