Codes? Sorry noob question..

I just called my local Nissan shop and asked how much it would be to check my car and see if it would throw any codes. They quoted 48 bucks....yeah im not paying that. Where do you guys go? & how much do you pay? btw, what's it called when you hook up your car and see if it throws a code. Yeah, I know, complete noob question.

buy either the Haynes or Chilton manual at an automotive store. I know for sure the Haynes has the process to test your computer to see if its throwing codes. costs $14.00 and is helpful for other things as well. better than spending $48.00.

Do a search, and you should be able to find a couple of post that tell you how to check your ECU for stored codes. It's really easy. And you might even be able to get a friendly org member to tell you what codes mean. But you really should buy a manual of some sort. I'm looking for a FSM myself.

What key words are you using when searching???? Try "ECU, diagnostic, test".
