Question for anybody with a auto rebuilt transmission? After you got it it rebuilt, did your car run the way it used to? because i heard that when you get your trans or engine work done, your car doesn't run as well. Does somebody have experience on this matter, if so please let me know thanks. Also i have a 94 gxe with 130,000 miles on it, should i replace the transmission or just get rid of the car

If you take it to a reputable shop, they'll be able to fix it like it was new. I had the transmission rebuilt on an Accord about 5 years ago and had the same worry. After I had the transmission job done, it really shifted like new again.

Finding a good reputable shop, on the otherhand, can be a challenge.

I had mine rebuilt around in December for about $1500 with 6 month warranty. As of now I have no real problems except the rpm's will be high (about 2-3k rpm around 50 mph), but I think that the cold weather plays a factor as well. Other than that, the mechanics messed up my ABS, so now when I go back to Memphis, I have to ask them to fix that (for free of course). As far as it driving new, I bought the car used, so I don't know, but it seems okay to me. Hope this helps somehow. Good luck.

Oh by the way, the remanufactured transmission on Ebay is a joke. You will most likely win the bid at 400 like I did back in December, but you will not meet their reserve. I called them up (they're in AZ), and they said that they'd sell it for $700-800.

rebuilt auto transmission

I had mine rebuilt last year. Cost about $2000. Came with 1 year warrantee. Goes up through the gears as crisp as new, but doesn't like to down-shift. I think that's just a question of adjusting one of the many solenoids.

tranny

I had my autotranny rebuilt last week, it cost me around $1800, but what a difference, the car feels like new and i feel a lot more power, if you are going to rebuild your tranny try and get the high quality parts like I did, the name of the company that makes the parts is Trans-star. No more neutral drops for me though..

If you tranny is trashed, the radiator needs replacing cause fines might be released into you rebuilt. Look for a place that give at least a year warrantty and will stand behind it. Not only get it in writing, but find out if people have actually collected on the warranty and if your planning to go outside of the area, deal with a chain.

I had a friend that the enginee failed within the warranty period but couldn't collect -- It when to the local dealer for service (not a Nissan). He complained about the enginee many times before the major failure occured.

If you get a separate tranny cooler, some extra control valves will be needed so the tranny runs at the proper temp

IMHO

On an auto tranny, the fluid is cooled by a built-in cooler that inside the radiator. Two thin metal attachment lines are usually on the bottom of the radiator. So the antifreeze (a very good conductor of heat) gets most of the heat and then transfers it the the air (not so good), but the radiator has a large surface. This design is also good to keep the fluid from getting too cold. Tranny fluid gets hot, heats up the water, which then turns on the fan only when needed. If you put a aux. tranny fluid cooler, Water doesn't turn on the fan, so another switch needs to be added, which might over cool your engine. A by pass valve may is also needed when the fluid is too cold.

i had mine rebuilt about 6 months ago...i was stupid when i first got the car and did neutral drops .....its been fine, i had a scare though cus the hose that carries the tranny fluid to the tranny broke and my car overheated but thank god my tranny came out ok.....now it shifts pretty smooth...only feel slight kicks early mornings when i first drive the car for a mile or 2.

Re: is a regular aux tranny cooler a bad idea...?

it's plumbed inline of the tranny cooler hose. it's a temp thermostat almost...under a specified temp the tranny cooler will be by passed....once the ATF hits that temp it will close the bypass valve and flow ATF in to the cooler.

you don't need to change the radiator if your tranny blows...you will need to FLUSH out the tranny cooler part of it. many companies sell kits that allows you to flush out the cooler portion to get all the metal bits out. unless you want to throw out a perfectly good radiator flushing it out would be the better way to go. also bypassing the stock cooler and using a aux cooler will get you away from replacing the radiator.
