Front Strut bar
Front Strut bar
I recently bought the 89-94 Nissan Maxima SOHC Front Strut Brace Nu off eBay. This one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2433521379
When I went to install it, it came with no directions but seemed simple enough... until I realized it was too long. There is a tensioning nut on each end. I was able to get it on by removing the nut off one end, but it only leaves one nut behind to ajust the tension (to either tension it to pull inward slightly, or push outward slightly).
I got it on there, but does anyone know 1) is it normal to remove the nut on one side to make it fit correctly? and 2) Should the tension be adjusted to pull inward? or push outward slightly?
Thank you all for any help....

How close was the fit with both adjusting nuts all the way in? When I installed mine, I got one side in and then hammered the other side in with a soft mallet. This presses the two sides of the car apart slightly, which may help in improving the cornering ability of the car.

I took both nuts on and adjust the bar by twisting it if I need to. it fits perfectly without nuts...who needs nuts anyway right?
That's not fair everyone has no clearance problems like my car, I have **** load of AC/heater hoses running on the passenger ends that I can't install the strut bar without descompressed the AC and reroute the hoses. Maybe, I'll do that next summer...while this bar could sit underneath my bed for a while.
Anyway, if you don't have any clearance problem and here is your answer. This one is very easy. Park your car to safety, detach the 3 strut mount nuts on each side (passenger and driver) and do NOT attempt to remove the center nut. Leave that alone. Now insert this bar into strut mount studs (there are 3 of them on each sides). Then bolt down the strut mount nuts on top of the bar insert and voila, you're all done. Note that you don't even need to jack up the car at all during the process. Total time: 5 mins.
