20s on a 1990 maxima...help please.

i bought a set of 20 inch mazati rims with which are 255 wide and with 35 series tires, i know these are very big for the car, but i have heard that 20s can fit on the 3rd gen. maybe if the rims where not so wide they would but to late now. my question is if i raise the car a little or bend in the finder should i be able to get by. i had them put on and when turning the drivers side tire hit something sharp and cut a 1/2 slit all around the outside tread of the tire only about an 1/8 inch from the top of the tire. so with a little modification i should get them to fit. if anyone has put big rims on the 3rd generation maximas, please help me out. also the back is so close you cant even get your hand in between the well. then i hit a speed bump and the tire smacked the top of the well. these tires are so wide they stick out about 1/2 over the well. i like how they look on the car, but they just dont work. the back will be easy to fix by just raising 1/2 inch to and inch with spring spacers. the front may be harder.

Are you freakin kidding me!!! You must post a pic, like now! I've got to see this.

As far as fitting issues. Your probably going to need some major modifying to the wheel wells, and probably smaller tires. Not to mention how much your speed o is probably off.

prolly be able 2 ... but i am lowered with sprint and i have 18 x 8 running 235 40 18 and my rims rub in the back only on hard turns with a full - 3/4 tank of gas... but i am getting longer studs (as should you) and hopefully it'll fit better, i am thinking of getting the fenders rolled alittle as well ... so the rims wont just stick out past the side of my car. but yea it should be albe to be done.

Much like the designer clothes at the fashion shows. Looks extravagant but pretty much useless. If it's a show car only, do it, otherwise they'll be a pain in the ***.

yes you will definitly have to roll or cut all fenders and maybe put some of those spring spacers you buy at autozone so you dont bottom out but the ride quality is going to be equivalent to a school bus

look find out where they are hitting and go from there, how wide are the rims? 8" or 8.5" ,

Im sure you know this now but next time do some more research before you buy, Im sure you think you got a great deal and thats why you jumped on it but if you had gotten the correct offset and such you probably could have done it with no modification.

yeah im a dumb ***, if anyone wants to buy them they are going to be for sale but a new maxima would look great with them on it. the tire size is 255 so about 10 inchs way to big for this max. i guess im going to just try a 19 with 235 series, but i hate to have to sell them they look so good.

I agree those rims are tight, but they would definitely not be that functional. I'd really like to see how they look, can somebody maybe even photochop them onto a 3rd gen. Sorry to all nay sayers I just like the idea of a 3rd gen on dubs

well, im going to take it to a shop tomarrow, to see if they can do some cutting/bending and banging...hah, for the last shot to see if they fit. stock they turn all the way to the right on the drivers side, but one corner when turning to the left rubs the outer part of the finder and gets stuck on an interpart of the finder. hopefully i can post pics soon just because everyone seems like they would like to see it done. and it seems like almost no one has them on a 3rd gen.

20's on a 3rd gen ? humm...why id rather have 17's and a lowering kit. or even 16's i dont care. why go thru all that trouble just get a smaller rim size.

and it killed the whole look of his car IMO...before he went all extreme his 3rd gen was one of the BEST looking around. but to each his own IMO they make the car look like a min-monster truck, since you can't really lower the car any after you put them on

its really not at lot of modification... i drove mine around the parking lot with this 10 inch wide tires with no modifications and a set of stock rims in the back seat. it smacked the back well on a speed bump but the front was fine over the speed bump. only 1 spot rubs on the inside of the well that needs to be hammered in. and a little of the bottom of the outside finder needs to be bent out. other then that the back can be raised about 1/2 - 3/4 of an inch with spring spacers and will be workable. hopefully i will have it done by tomarrow, or at least an estimate.

yeah but than your car will sit like a 4x4, I dont understand why people put 20's on pretty much stock cars, and old cars too, I mean is it just to say you have 20's

On the way to NOPI I saw a 80ish cutless with what looked like 22s. It was so jacked up it really did look like a 4x4. Was the most rediculous thing I have ever seen...well close to it anyway.

fitting and fitting right are 2 different things. we can see that they fit, but if you go over a bump hard enough those tires will drive into the fenders and dent them. i need to be able to be as low and tuck as much as i am now. thats where the heavy mods come in
