accleration problems

hey guys this morning i was having trouble with my accleration, usally i step on the gas and it flies - but today i would step on it and the rpm would go up to 2 and then i would be going like 5 to 10 mph.

anyone know what the problem would b>?

i checked to see if the trans. fluid was up - or if i had any in there at all - and it was ok - i checked the air filter cuz someone told me it can b that - and i frankly dont think its that -

should i try
fuel injection cleaner?
add more trans fluid?
what?..

anyone know how to drain the trans. and refill it - is there a drain plug somewhere - if so where - and sites/ tutorials?

HELP!
thanks guys

go easy on that fuel injector cleaner stuff, they're pretty harsh on the injectors themselves and if you use gallons of that crap, you might end up running rich.

i'd check the air filter, exhaust leaks, and the oxygen sensor.

Has your fuel filter ever been replaced.

So does it seem to over-rev like a worn cluth in a manual...bcause if thats what it feels like I'd suggest getting your tranny rebuilt. I'd check all your filters and fluid...when the last time your car got a good tune up?

My shop teacher told me that having too much oil in ur motor can cause it to feel like your tranny was slipping. Actually I'm not sure exactly what it was, but I think thats it. Lol

well is your car shiffting? from a cold start up??
-it could be stuck in 3rd gear on a cold start-up
this means you have a lazy tranny temp. sensor
try letting your car warm for a few min..(4-5) then see if it feels ant differnet
-My max has a lazy tranny temp. sensor and i always have to let it warm a bit and got easy when its a cold start-up...so it doesnt hide back in winter mode (3rd gear) it sounds bad, but.. as soon as it warms it feels great.

yeah i checked all my fluilds and i did another oil change on the car - just to be sure it wasnt too much oil in the engine - but yeah - a real GOOOOOOD tune up sounds goo rite about now -

i think my alternator about to die out too - my windows and everything workin really slow all of a sudden - and im guessin the 2000watts of subs arent helping the alternator too much - specially without a CAP.

wut optima batt. does the 91 take - i think its the red top rite which is equivilant?

while too much oil will slow that car down it will also produce white smoke from the tailpipe.

err power/comfort swtich?

that only controls shift pattern..not power delivery.

red is normal use
yellow is DEEP CYCLE...many discharge and recharges and it will not hurt the battery. that's the main differences.

and realistically you can go "off roading" w/ any optima battery..they are all sealed units.

Ok, I was thinking that also. Or I just figured I would crawl into my car after work and look for a new power/hold button that I had never ran across. Also, why would anyone need a hold option???????

Yeah, and if you throw a Gel Cell battery across the room it won't leak either

While I don't recall seeing a power/hold button on my max. My old legacy did have a hold button for the trans. It was designed to prevent the trans from changing gears when you didn't want it too

All I was saying is that sealed batteries are really tough and can take one heck of a beating and not leak. Hense the Optima can be placed on its side or in any other position.

Maybe he needs to clarify the problem a little more, because heatsoak would just make his Max a little less powerfull. (maybe 5 - 10 horsepower) I was under the impression that he was having a drastic powerloss. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

well a bad knock sensor could cause the power loss.

Another thing that I just thought of, it could be a loose throttle cable, but it could be alot of things... we always overlook the obvious
