Last weekend I got together with LittlePiggie and we built a 3" CAI kit on my VE. First off, THANK YOU! Secondly, if you thought there was a noticeable gain when you installed a pop charger this will blow your doors off. John does great work for a significantly low cost; Check This Link if you're interested in one also. The VG kit I belive is currently in production and the VE kit is soon to be also.

Here are the photos of my install.

Looks darn impressive! I havea general question for you or piggie. Do you think welding your stock fitting into the pipe will help THAT much? That was a good idea IMO. I just put in my Cattman CAI last weekend and I spent about 5 hours putting it in....darn fittment issues. Sounds like your install/build was as easy as my install....Good work guys

I don't remember who's idea it was, but we were deciding whether to fab those tubes or weld the stock ones up. That was the easiest at the time. The only problem is that those two tubes are aparently really expensive from nissan, so it's prohibitive to use them in a production type kit.

buy some electrical conduit or thinwall metal tubing. you can get it in the same sizes as those pieces, then just weld them onto the sides. That's what WSP does with theirs, as well as the other people who make them. they dont' have to stick out into the airflow like that.

If you do it right, you also shouldn't have to move the fuse box or anything. it'll fit down there, but it's a tight squeeze.

OK, this has probably been asked before, but looking at the pics, won't you get water splashed on the filter where it's located?

no... it's behind the plastic fender liner.
I've had mine get wet before, but that doesn't hurt the filter.. as long as you don't submerge the end of the intake or something, you're nto going to have any problems.

Yeh, like they said, Don't forge a river and you'll be fine. I have already payed for the VG setup and am awaiting for others who showed interest to do the same. It's about time that affordable scarce upgrades come out in the open.

Like spipe said, it was the only option at the time. the only bad thing about using them, again like spipe said, is that the little elbow costs ~$90 from nissan and the bend costs ~$190

I'm looking into getting some pipe the same as the stock stuff, but it has to be steel and I need a 3" mandrel bend in one unless I don't have it go into the airflow.

Spipe, would you be willing to test a version without the tube in the airstream sometime?

and with the radius of bend we had available there was no way we could get the pipe to fit without moving the fuse box. with 4.5" bends it will be a lot easier to fit it, but the hole will be really funky.

the prices for the VE midpipe will be up as soon as we figure out which works better, the pipe in the airflow or the pipe out of the airflow, just keep checking the thread in the classifieds.

it's a very good quality "generic" k&n Style. I would use k&n, but that would put the price of the kit at 190 and we don't want that.

spipe used his old filter on his.

that bend was from stupid goofy's muffler shop. it was rediculously overpriced though, even though I saved 5 off the phone quote.

Is this without the filter? I guess I can just go to an autopart and order a K&N filter.

How much for a VE CAI, anondized red color, shipped to 52246?

I can't say for sure, but I think he has to source the little pipes that go into the pre-MAF pipe. Also, are you talking about the pipe from the TB to the MAF, or the one from the MAF down?

Yep, I have to get the little pipes. I've got a lead on some in town, so I might have an exact quote tonight.

On the anondized red..I have a FSTB that is anondized red color so I thought you could paint it that color so it matches but no biggies..I just take a red once I know the final price.

mmk, it will cost 19 less if you get your own filter. I've got the k&n filter number somewhere, I'll start looking for it.

On my car I have the K&N round tapered rubber ended filter. K&N part number RU-3580. That filter is a bit on the small side though (like, short wise being only 5" tall). I'd get the 6" one which is RE-0930.

Check out http://knfilters.com/universal/univrndtap.htm for more options.

the pipe takes care of the taper for you. if you'll notice on the pic showing the filter there is a weld...that weld is holding on a slight downturn that puts the filter almost parallel to the fender wall.

I would also recommend to those who buy a K&N to buy the Airforce foam cover to go with it. This provides the extra layer of protection from anything that may get into your fenderwell that may damage your air filter. On K&N's site you can see the P/N for the Airforce foam wrap that goes with the filter. Some of you may know that this is available on other CAIs with the filter bundled, and I just wanted to point out that K&N seems to offer the same type of thing with their filters.

Migth be a ripoff pricewise, and everyone might be better off making their own, but check it out at http://knfilters.com/airforcewraps.htm.
