does anyone knows what causes this

well i got a 5spd when am shifting up it goes fine but i notice when am comin to a stop and down shift into 2nd..i hear a clerkkkkk sound at any speed that i try to down shift and i hit the clutch before i change the gear so its not on my path...and the car doesnt rev or 2nd doesnt slow the car down it just keep rolling...there is no compression and the most would happen is the car would jerk jerk then it keeps rolling and for me to shift into 1st ill have to wait till am going like 15mph...and it would do the samething...any help is appreciated

Im really not a big fan of downshifting to 1st gear at any speed above 15mph. I really don't think its good for the powertrain when you go down to 1st above a speed that would be more than 2500 in 2nd gear.

i never down shift into 2nd, unless your at a light or traffic, just less wear and tear on the gearbox, clutch etc. just pop it into neutral after 3rd brakes are cheaper in the long run

I only downshift on downhill when I'm mountain driving and like NismoDrew said: It's better to spend 100 bucks on a brake job than over 1,000 on a trany job...

I agree on that dont really down shift unless u need to stop pre tty damn fast and u need both brakes and the engine to slow u down brakes are cheaper. meant to ask when u downshift does the engine stay at a high idle like u have the foot on the gas, or does the idle drop down when the clutch is dis-engaged? i had a problem something like that on my 89 max but my throttle assmbly had the engine reving higher all the time so when every i would down dis-engage the clutch the engine would rev to like 2000 rpms so down shifting for me was like accelerating!!!!

see i dont down shift often but sometimes i like to play with the gears and feel good...but no i dont have that high rev...its just i dont kno why compression doesnt build up in 2nd to really hold the car back
