1st gear was there, now its gone
When i bought my car, it needed an entire clutch job....all components...but we were able to yard drive the max in first and second gear. now that i got the clutch replaced at the shop, the mechanic took it for a test drive and said it has no first gear.....could he have just messed up the linkage or something or is the tranny soon to be completely gone? (he said i could start out in 2nd, it has the power)

No, I mean take it to a different mechanic, period. If you take it in for a clutch job and he screws 1st gear up, then I wouldn't be going back.
only thing that might be messed up is the linkage, or he's got the clutch not completely disengaging, so it won't go into 1st.
Try turning the engine off, then sticking it in 1st gear. if it wont' do that, then the mechanic really messed something up. probably dropped the tranny on the gear selector shaft and bent it or something.

well, i drove it yesterday........and the mechanics told me that they weren't able to drive it in first when they originally brought it into the shop......and i wouldnt think he's lying because the mechanics a family friend, and he and another mechanic both checked the linkage and said it was good. so, should i just look into a new tranny or what??
