How much does it cost to replace windshield

Yesterday I had a rock crack the windshield on my 89 max. I just looked online to get some quotes for a new one, and they came in around a grand. I only have liability, so I will be paying this out of pocket. car-part.com had them used from $75 - $150, some of which were local. The only problem is I wouldn't know how to install it. If anyone has been through this, I would appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks.

Winshield replacement costs vary from state to state and depends on where you take your car. I'm in Atlanta now, and replacement woould probably run me about $350.00 or probably less at auto glass shops.

There are many junk yards that do replacement glass using OEM glass taken off of cars that have been junked; you might wanna check them out, or go through your yellow pages and compare prices with auto glass shops.

Remember to take you two cheapest prices and pit them against each other. In the auto glass business experience has taught me they are usually wiling to go ower than the price they quote you.

To make a long story short, you are being stiffed if you pay a grand for a windshield.

I got some quotes for a new windshield and they came back around $150-200 from a auto glass place. Don't let someone stiff you for $1000, you could get your front and rear for less than that.

In Florida it is automatically covered under insurance and it does not count against your coverage. That is the law. Call a couple glass shops and they'll know.

I'm in BK and had one installed for $150. It was warrentied for six month with the shop that installed it. I thought it was a GREAT deal. After about a year it began to crack. Sometimes you get what you pay for.

Check to see if there is a Saf-T-Lite palce in your area. They're nationwide. Just had to have the windshield replaced on my 2K3 already. A stone shipped it on the way down to Myrtle Beach for vacation and it turned into a foot long crack. Mine was covered under insurance, but they came to my home and replaced it in about an hour and twenty minutes right in my garage. They stock vitually everything. Called on a Friday and they came on Monday.

they may have given you a quote for a WS with heads the heads up speedometer on it because that is a very expensive glass.

Thanks for the input. No way was I going to fork out a grand for the windshield. If that was the case, cracking the windshield would nearly total the car. I called some local places today, and got much better pricing. Prices ranged from $168 to $382. As mentioned before, everything seemed very cut throat. Most of them said the would beat any competitors prices. I called 7 places, and then called one of the nation wide places back, and had them beat the lowest price. $181 w/ tax.

It's almost worth the $181 to get rid of a film that was on the inside of the windshield. I don't know if the previous owner smoked or what, but no matter what I cleaned the inside windshield with, I could not get rid of it.

I paid $130.00 installed. Also notice that 3rd gens came with two different types of winshield, the SE has a bronze effect and the other regualr windshield has a blue effect that can be seen only when it rains. The blue one was cheaper.

it broke initially from my hood latch comming unhooked at 80 miles an hour (trans-am) it wasnt fun it was at night too. needless tosay i needed a new hood, hood pistons, windshield, and after that i had hood pins installed. total cost me 90 for the windshield, 40 for the hood and pistons (junkyard) 50 to have the hood painted, and 40 for the pins (the locking kind not the actual pin type, you needed a for these)
