I am replacing the godforsaken knock sensor in my 93 SE- in the process I am replacing everything I see that could be bad or go bad soon. I had an idea about wrapping the coolant pipe that goes over the knock sensor to keep some of the heat soak down in the middle of the block. My thoughts: make the new sensor last longer, reduce ambient temp, and keep intake manifold temps down a bit. My questions are, 1. is it worth it you think? 2. I had thought of header wrap, but I have heard that the stuff likes to smoke for a bit at first- obviously the exhaust temps are higher than coolant temps, but I don't want a smokin' engine, even for a couple of days. Any other ideas of what to wrap it with?

Thanks for any input guys- I'm just trying to make the Max as consistent as possible, spent too long with intermittent code 34's

nah... wrapping that pipe won't do you much good at all. the coolant running through there is the stuff straight out of the radiator- it's at the coolest point it's going to be.

what you CAN do to keep the knock sensor from getting damaged again is to coat the terminals with dielectric grease, then when you plug the harness into it, cover that area with RTV silicone and then cover the last 2-3" of it (including the knock sensor connector) with heat shrink or electrical tape... that was no moisture can get in there at all. knock sensor should last forever after that.
