radio bracket screws stripped, please help
radio bracket screws stripped, please help
Today I removed my unworking Bose headunit that is stuck on one AM channel. some idiot audio installer must have used a screw gun to retighten the screws back on the Bose radio when the old owner took his/her radio back out. How do I get these screws out, tried every size phillips head. I am thinking of just drilling out the screws since the radio is not worth anything anyways, I just need to get the old radio off the mounting bracket so I can mount my Alpine cd player in.
See if you can get some vice grips on the edges. If the screws are flush with the mounting, then you may have to drill them out. When I replaced my ex-girlfriends head unit in her Infinity, I had to use vice grips to get the screws out.
Use a pretty small drill bit and you can drill through the center of the screws.. go slowly and watch the screw itself. as the screw heats up from the drilling, the threads will eventually pop loose from the bracket, and you can then unscrew it normally from the radio... and even reuse the screws later.
the drill worked. I drilled 4 different size holes, then pryed the heads off until they snapped out. Not attached to my brackets anymore, thanks for the help. Once I get the engine running right, I'll order the cd player.
