Awesome forum - already learned a bunch

Just found this forum today. Never thought to look for a Maxima forum. I've got a 93SE with 146K miles that I've owned since brand new. Never, ever heard about the 'VTC' tick (though mine has it like a **** and has had it since it was probably 40K miles old). The car still runs as good as the day I bought it or at least it seems like it does! I'll continue learning about this dang VTC thing cuz it's getting worse now and driving me nuts. Carry on, men

you can ground them so they dont make the noise anymore (they dont work either but I dont think they work after they start to tick anyway) search grounding vtc or something like that

I just got back from a 30 mile ride after doing the VTC grounding thing. Definitely quieted the tic'ing noise but my idle seemed to be affected as well. Prior to grounding the VTC solelnoids my maxy idled smooth as silk, now it's not quite so smooth. Is this a side-effect of doing this mod?

Thanks for the welcome!

It's probably the first change the ECU has seen in the engine's operation, so it freaks out a bit. give the ECU a few days to adjust and it should smooth out. I always notice mine does weird stuff for a day or so when I ground/unground the VTCs.

I'll see if it settles down a bit after a few days. You're right, the ECU has never seen a single mod on this car! Only thing I've ever done to is change the fluids & filters, spark plugs once, battery, waterpump, passenger side control arm bushings (actually had to replace the entire A-arm cuz I couldn't find just the bushings). The factory battery went bad at about 110K and the waterpump at 144K. Still running the factory charge on the AC!
One more question: Who was the genius at Nissan that decided to put the cup holders in the glove compartment?!
