17" 2000 SE Rims on 3rd Gen

Ok, I know from the maxfaqs that i need a 235/45/17 or 250/15/17's depending on rims width. I'm having trouble determining the width of the 2000's rims. It looks like they're 7" but I wanted to hear it from the experts before I placed my order for new tires off TireRack.
Thanks for your help.
Jim

ok, they say your supposed to run 225/xxr17 (xx can be anything you want), but we have 235/45r17 on our 2000 SE 5spd. I wouldn't really go below a 45series. Also we are running Kumho 712's.

If I were putting 5th Gen 17's on my car I would just go with 225/45 because those wheels are only 7" wide. There should be a sticky or reasonably easy to find thread about this issue (try the 5th gen forum), because there's been some heated debate about whether or not it is "safe" to put 235/45 tires on those wheels.

Thanks for the help guys, I did do a search before I posted, but I was looking under the 3rd gen. I'll take a look under 5th gen and see what I can find.
Thanks again,
Jim

If you take a stock set of rims with stock tires (re92's I think), that size will be 225/50/17.
