Wipers don't work!

1992 Maxima GXE, 135,000+ miles

Well my windshield wipers decided to cut out yesterday (it was raining, that was fun). I can hear the wiper motor turning, but the wipers do nothing. Any ideas- is there a belt or something that I can adjust without having to pay my mechanic 50 bucks?

Thanks,

-Ethan

probably a worn linkage. Do you live where it snows?

I have a similar problem, but only the driver side stopped workin so i went "MONO" wiper and its embarrasing... my hands dont fit in where the linkage is so imma get Nissan to fix it, (not worth the trouble)

You probably have two worn out pieces. There is a ball and socket that seems to go bad on these. Here is a picture of the two parts.

This is the rod from the wiper motor (located on the passenger side) to the passenger side wiper. You MIGHT be able to get away with only replacing the rod, but since the rod for the drivers side is driven from the passenger side you might just want to go ahead and replace it to. I got both peices from Courtesy Nissan for about $27 & shipping.

Prepare to spend at least an hour+ doing it the first time.

Yeah this repair is a PITA especially if you don't have small hands. I don't even remember how I did it now, but I remember having to disconnect the wiper motor and almost removing it to get the darn rod reattached.
