Hello everybody, I'm a newcomer from China.
My 94' GXE runs around 15 miles per gallon in city. Is that normal or too high? If it is too high, what should I check? Sparkler? tire presure? Last week I had my GXE inspected at Midas, they charge me $500 for replacing 4 brakepads and 2 front rotors. Do you think it is resonable or not? Was I screwed? |
My '93 Maxima used to get around 420-450 miles per tank on
road trips, so that'd be 30+ mpg. Lately, I am lucky to get 300 miles to a tank, but that should improve now that I have replaced four fuel injectors and it's running normally. In the city, I know you are not going to get the best gas mileage, but I would expect around 20+mpg at least. Bad O2 sensor, bad PCV valve, fouled plugs, dirty air filter, low tire pressure, stuck EGR valve (?), weak injectors - all sorts of things can contribute to bad fuel economy. Check your tire pressure and take a look at your plugs... As for the brake job, maybe, maybe not. Rotors are listed at $68 each at Courtesy Nissan and pads are $56 a set. If they replaced the bearings, tack on $35 each. It adds up pretty quickly. My wife wore a pad down to metal on the right front, but I just replaced the pads and had the rotor turned (about $6) and everything was fine. |
MPG
I drive about 70% HWY/30% CITY here in the Seattle suburbs and get 24-27 MPG.
15 MPG is pretty low unless you live in Manhattan, NY and perpetually stuck in traffic or in a similar environment. |
hmm
I get less then 13 miles per gallon, I live in NYC but don't hit the heavy traffic area's..... even with mostly highway trips I get no more then 16 mpg.
I am still trying to figure out the cause |
