Question on changing front brake pads
Question on changing front brake pads
My Nissan's maxima (1992 SE) from brake pads are almost out (15% left)
and I was planning on installing a new set of brake pads.
Brake depot is charging me $130 ( including the parts ) - I was thinking on saving some bucks and doing it myself.
Could someone kindly post instructions on how to do this and what tools may be required. I inquired at Auto Zone and was told that good quality brake pads would cost me around $40.
Please advise.
Thanks,
Saad

front pads are easy to change, youll need basic hand tools, rachet set and most likely a C-clamp to compress the caliper.
1- pull ebrake then put something behind the wheels, so it dosent roll ( i use large rubber wheel chocks) then jack the car p and support it with jack stands. NEVER USE THE JACK TO HOLD UP THE CAR ! my buddy did this and the car fell on him and broke his ribcage.
2) remove tire with lug wrench
3) on the back side of the caliper you will need to remove two bolts holding it on. then pry it off the rotor. ALSO remember to inspect rotors for warping and take a quick look at the brake lines for cracks. now take the old pads out of the caliper. use the c-clamp and recompress the caliper slowly till the piston is back in the caliper. insert new pads into the caliper and place back on rotor insert caliper bolts and tighten to factory torque specs with your torque wrench. (if you dont have one use a socket and make it tight but dont CRANK IT DOWN. replace tire and do the same on the other side. after the other side is done then check fluid level in brake resevoir and then with the car off push the brake petal to the floor a few times the petal should tighten up and you shouldnt be able to me it much now start car and test it SLOWLY FIRST !!! if you have disc in the rear then the instructions are the same. if you have drum then thats a different story let us know if you have drum rears....
