What auto trans fluid is compatable to Nissan ATF????
The manual says "Dextron equivilent", Which Dextron?????

DEXTRON ATF II
Universal fluid for automatic gears (ATF) and power steering.

DEXTRON ATF III
Universal Synthetic base fluid for automatic gears (ATF) and power steering of cars, buses, trucks, and operating machines.

Stick with Dextron ATF III specified fluid for both power-steering & auto transmission (some Mazdas & Fords cars & Mercedes trucks also use it in manual trannies too...). Is the most common type available and superceded Dextron II (I'd be surprised if you could even find Dextron II - haven't seen it in NZ in over 15 years...).
All Dextron ATF fluid is synthetic. Dextron is a GM brand name & specification - other manufacturers will specify there stuff meets the same Dextron III technical standard & may use names like "Unimatic".

except for ford. they have their own atf if i'm not mistaken.

Ford is called MERCON M2C, Allison's is called C4, Mercedes & ZF US military also have spec's that are the equivalent to GM's DEXTRON III. Without knowing the history of Auto Trans Fluid, it's likely there all parties to a standards consortium.
Essentially, if it says meets or exceeds Dextro III on container, is likely to be almost identical, regardless off manufacturer. Only difference may the use of different anti-foaming agents, dirt inhibitors etc.
To recap, use a reputable brand that says it meets or exceeds Dextron III & you can't go wrong.

just get any universal ATF fluids, they all works fine for both the AT and Power Steering. I am currently using Amsoil but I've heard people used Mobil 1 and didn't had any complaints.

Thanks for all the info. Reason I asked is because I've read that you should use the Nissan ATF or the trans will die.
Chryslers have their own ATF, and if you use Dextron, in the newer trans, it will kill the trans.
We used to use Type "f" in GM trans for racing because it had more friction additives in it. It did make a difference.
I've read on "Bob's the oil guy" site that Dextron III is not a full synthetic, but a blend.
