I have the UDP and when I first start the car it feels like it wants to cut off. Then after about two or three minutes it purrs like a kitten.

I think your idea of cold (in Houston) and MethMax's idea of cold in St. Paul, Minnesota are probably a little different! (j/k Matt)

MrGone has a lightened flywheel and he has an opinion about everything. Ask him.

I have a Fidanza, No problems what so ever (caused by the Fidanza that is).

I had a vacuum line come off the back of the manifold about two weeks ago, that made my idle crappy, but it wasn't because of the fidanza.

also my problem was the car idled like crap when it was warm, not cold. (that was the vacuum hose)

Another experience with mine:
I bought my car with a bad tranny, so after I replaced everything I just working on the car, making everything was good, and the VTC's started knocking, so I grounded them. Since I hadn't even taken my car out on the street yet, I didnt know what was the problem, tried O2, nothing, tried some other things, etc, nothing. Turns out it was because the VTC's were grounded, The computer just has to get used to it I guess. Now I have them on a switch, when I flip the switch sometimes the idle can get rough, but not really as drastic as before (bouncing inbetween 500 and 1000rpms back and forth for maybe 5 seconds or more, plus viberating the whole car).

Since you dont have VTC's, that doesn't help you very much. Maybe check the Idle Air Control?

oh yes. matt. slam dunk this to bed finally: is the crank pulley on the VG really the harmonic balancer? that is, does the UDP on that engine f&*cK it up?

now lets get back on topic... (heh)

figure it out?

Chad- yes and no. Normally I think of harmonic balancers as parts that if you take off, engine go buh bye! when you try to run it again.

(example: ford SB v8's aren't internally balanced, so they need a harmonic balancer on the front of the crank (mine just happens to be built onto the pulley). If I modify it, the engine becomes unbalanced and I can snap the crank. blah blah blah.

(if your going off that whole bimmer thing, dont worry about it).

Does the flywheel really have a major affect on the way your car idles?

that has been my reluctancy in changing mine over is the uncertainly in the idle and whether or not the crank pulley will really cause more damage than good? When i do a mod i dont want to wait 15 minutes for the car to act right due to the mod.. Got me!!!
