Another e36 question...................Yeah I know.........

People are going to want to flame me for not knowing this stuff after reading all about it the e3 conversion but, I never focused in on the idea of it cuz I wasn't planning on doing it. I now have a spider web cracked passenger side headlight and I am thinking about doing the conversion.

I checked the bimmer website and will probably pick them up there so I only have a few questions.....

1. Can someone leave me the link for the write-up on it........
2. Anything I need to make sure comes with the e36's when I get them?
3. How hard is to do?
4. Anything else anyone would like to leave me...........info wise I mean. I know your all gonna wanna love to flame me but since no search and lack of paying attention, I must be rely and all you guys about this issue for me.......

Thanks for your time.

That's what I'm talkin' bout, Shawn... get your work on!
  1. Link = http://www.angelfire.com/trek/tko/bmw_conversion/
  2. Just as long as the headlight itself is intact, you should be good to go. You won't need the brackets, though - just so you know.
  3. Not that hard at all. Just time-consuming. People have said they did it in 2 or so hours (which is feasable). But do it right the first time, so you're not diggin back in there every 2-3 days.
  4. Just remember, our headlights have 3 wires and one bulb. E36 US-spec headlights have two bulbs, four wires. Splicing WILL be a necessity. Once again, take your time and do it right the first time.

we could just use 2 relays and wire the lights in parallel right? one relay for high beams, one relay for low beams, shared ground. Right?

Now, I'm assuming you're talking about making an upgraded harness for your lights?? I'm not the expert when it comes to that, but in theory, yes. Just need to make sure you have the single pole-dual throw (SPDT) relay.

didn't you tell me you hated BMW lights?

In fact I think I was discouraged by you to do the projectors for my HID!

Now I see its just your uncontrollable jealousy Shawn.

I dunno if I would say hate, but there are just some cars that prevent me from liking them because they dont flow or look natural. When I look at Gjohnson's car though....

There's no way I could have discouraged you to do projectors, I want them too (and your HID's... remember I dibbed those )

I wish you were closer though, that would be a fun project aswell.

I'll trade you an engine for some projectors/HIDs/etc

Continued.......

Ok, I am picking up the lights at the bottom of this post and I was looking around to see what was all involved in doing the actual conversion. I'm getting the idea that there is a lot of cutting involved.....YUCK!

Also, for the high/lowbeams.....How does that all work out. Since the maximas have one plug, is there a way to get another plug and run the high beam wire to one of the circle lights and have the power and ground in the other the other circle light or how does all this work out.....Trying to understand the instructions a little bit more.....

No Jeffy, I dont ask questions

Aaron, you (or we can) get the wiring parts (harnesses and relays and wire (I'd do either 14 or 12) and some female spade connectors and ring terminals, and heatshrink) and I'll take care of all the wiring for you
I have some spare Nissan relays from my old car, but if I were you I'd just get some aftermarket ones.

what bimmer website are you speaking of? I plan to do E36 headlights, but using Euro ellipsoid projectors with angel eyes.

Well, I just pulled a stupid move a second. Went to go meet the guy to pick up my lights at Starbucks. I ended up going to the wrong one becuase I forgot (for some odd reason) about the other one and so by the time I get there, obviously he is gone so I have to wait to get in touch with him for another meeting :

Shawn, I was planning on trying it with my dad if we have time but if not your next on my list. I really have no idea and will be tryin to follow the online instructions but man does that look like a lot of crap!

Its not that hard, the hardest part IMO is cutting the metal to make room for the extra bulb. Once thats done its a piece of cake. Good luck!
