High flow Cat and Muffler question, HELP
High flow Cat and Muffler question, HELP
Hi,
I wanna get a high flow cat and also a performance muffler. Here are my questions:
1. Will the high flow cat make my car smoke?
2. What kind of muffler is recommended for performance not noise. I don't want my max to sound like a stupid Honda. A little deep sound is ok but not too much.
Thanks guys

I'm on my third muffler in search of the perfect sound. My exhaust is a Warpspeed Y pipe and a 2.5" B pipe with 18" resonator with a Carsound HiFlow cat.
1. Edelbrock RPM (2.5" C In, C out) - Interesting idea and it should've worked better. But it was VERY loud. So loud that it made listening to the stereo unbearable.
2. Magnaflow (2.5" C In, Dual 2.25 Out) - Again, WAY to loud.
Both of the above setups might as well be straight pipes. That's not what I want from a car like a Max. If I want noise I'll take add a few rings (or take them all off) to the SuperTrapp muffler on my MR2 SC and rev to 7500 rpm.
3. Generic "Turbo" muffler from Mieneke Muffler (2.5" C In, 2.5 Offset Out) - Noisy. With a 2.5" resonator tip it becomes not quiet, but livable. I can listen to the stereo. No droaning at any speed. Highway cruising is excellent. Put your foot in it and you get a nice deep tone, especially once past 3500 rpm. This is a livable setup.
I'm still thinking of going to something different. Maybe one of those Gen5 mufflers. I really want something quieter on the street. with some noise when I boot it!
Good luck. Mufflers are really a matter of taste.
