Interior Paint Question

Question about the Interior Panels. I was going to but the B.A. Dash Kit for my maxima but had to spend the cash on a part to fix a problem. My little brother then asked me: "Why don't you just get some silver paint and paint them?" At first i thought heck no and smacked him. A few days later, i went to my friends house to paint some thing in his truck. I did a really good job but it was a different material then whats in mine.

Think i should i paint it or should i save the money and get the kit?

to paint it and get the finish of a dash kit will take some work and alot of sanding to get the quality of a dash kit trust me it all depends on what your preferance is.

I painted mine...I used the actual paint I am spraying the car with though (base coat/clear coat). I also sanded the texture off and made the panels smooth. I like how it looks...but it will look much better after the car is painted.

here is a link to the post I posted the other day about it

and here is a pic:

gotta sand sand sand.

if you're willing to do some work instead of paying for a kit...go for it.

just a good paint and don't forget clearcoat.

krylon? or you could get automotive paint, I think he meant to stay away from family dollar*or 99 cent store type paint, most of it is in the prep work when I did mine a while ago I used krylon and it came out pretty good.

Well, I've made some progress and some set backs. I had my step dad to to the store and get some paint. He came back with the silver paint i asked for. I go to spray it on a sanded panel and the crap starts to get eaten away. I freak and put it in hot water to get it off. It isn't too bad. I looked at the can later and saw that it was paint for the Exterior Metal of a Car. If i sand the peice back down again, think i can save it?

dont think its going to br cheep eather... i spent 60-80 bucks on all the stuff at it took me 3 weeks.. and i still dont like it, but it does give a cool effect, and looks much better then just a reg. paint job

is it off of a 92-94? if it is Id be interested, I want to make two this way when I dont need the extra din spot (after I get my new deck) I can put gauges or something down there, if I have two I can paint them both now so I dont have to worry about matching the pearl and color.

LOL Chris...3weeks...It took me 2 or 3 night to do mine but then again I have a DA. A DA makes the job go so much faster. Only thing about a DA is you have to be careful and use it at low speed so you dont dig into the plastic. I also used a good 2K primer which is a lot thicker than the stuff you get out of a spray can so I only had to prime once.

Mine looks great...no signs of the old texture, no sand scratches and no orange peal. I painted it one night and wet sanded and buffed with 3 stage 3M perfect it the next night. You cant really tell in the pics how deep the paint looks but some have seen it in person and know...3 coats of clear will do that though. Also remember the paint I used is a lot thicker than spray can paint so I didnt have to layer it on as much. It would also be way to expensive to do it my way if you didnt have the paint already...not to mention the spray equip. Then the paint is still soft for a while (months) so you have to be careful not to imprent or scratch it with anything.

Here is mine:

Its not a high end model but it does what I need it to and I got it cheap off of Ebay.

I thought thats what you were talking about (dual action), but I just cant figure out how you could use that on interior peices. I think it would just be too big, then again I lack experience using one so....

google is your friend. You have to do some research on your own on this because it doesnt look like anyone has much experience on buying aluminum dashes.

Good luck...oh and I know that you get what you pay for with dash kits. If you want quality then you have to pay for it.

www.woodtrim.com makes high quality kits I know...I have seen their CF kits and they are extremely nice and am sure their brushed aluminum kits are too.
