Control arm bushings
Control arm bushings
In addition to my exhaust problems (see my other thread) my car also rides likes crap. It feels like I am going over bumpy roads all the time. I read on here a long time ago a list of symptoms that matched mine perfectly that said I need to replace the control arm bushing. I called a couple local places here but they said they could only get the bushing from the rear. They are $18 a piece. Does anyone know where I can find the front bushings? What tools do I need to do the job? Also, do I need adjustable bushings or non? It is a 91 SE.

Tools? read that page.. also you'll need a 27mm socket. I forgot that one on there.
the most fun part is you'll need a hydraulic press..
If you don't want to do all that mess, then I'll be glad to do the swap work for you for $130, shipped....
can't find the original thread now, but basically you send me $230 (130 for the parts/labor + 100 core)... I have a set of rebuilt control arms that I ship you.. you swap the rebuilt ones with yours and mail me your old ones.. I'll check 'em out and as long as there's nothing wrong with them, I refund the 100 core charge.
If you're interested, shoot me a PM or email me at matt@mattblehm.com
2nd gen Maxima front control arm bushings are identical to the 3rd gen front bushings. Go buy some of those because they are available. I got mine at Autozone but it was about $50-60 for all 4 of them (for the front). As far as the rear control arm bushings, those usually aren't a problem from what I understand, since there isn't much of a bushing there to begin with. It might just be your front that needs replacement.
Or you could could pay a little more and get yourself some Noltec Polyuranthe Bushings. I got all 4 of them few months back at http://www.oztek.us/noltec.php?mid=25
For $100 shipped.
I'll install these bad boys in few weeks when the weather warms up a little. Here's how they look like:
Front

Back

You could also buy the rear bushings for the rear sway bar too but it's $89 + SH. I wouldn't recommend it. Considering that if you buy an ST bar, it also comes with polyuranthe bushings and they're $130 from the Internetautomar guy.
But I still don't get what Matt was saying how hard it is to press the front ones in. Was it because of the darn outer metal tube? Why couldn't you just whack the itch of it to get it pressed in?
