Should I fix my rust?

My car is a 1992 and rust is popping up all over the place... Heres my webpage with pictures of the rust... http://www.angelfire.com/linux/roll_...t_Problem.html

What do you think? Should I bother trying to fix this rust? I really enjoy my maxima but I dont really want to throw tons of money into a 12yr old car...

I was thinking that I might be able to replace the rusty doors with ones from a parts car(not mine the doors are bent outta shape) and that might be cheaper/easier than trying to fix them... I am planning to repaint the car in the summer...

So does the rest of the rust look fixable? Anyone know of a good product to stop/inhibit/convert rust for a temp. fix? Any one know heard any thing good about rust bullet?

Pics don't work for me, but if there's rust all over the car as it sounds, you may want to get rid of it. repairing it and repainting the entire car is going to cost you at least $2000.

The question I have for you is "Do you think this car is worth putting $2000 into just to repair the costmetics?"

If you've got $20k in mods like I do, the answer is yes. If you've got a few bolt-ons, then I would recommend letting this car to do the great Maxima meet in the sky, and taking your bolt ons to one that's had better care.

I made the mistake of having rust "fixed" on my 1990 Acura Legend, the repair looked great for a couple of months then the rust started coming back in most of the same areas. That's why it's called cancer, if the shop doesn't do a real good job in getting all of the ruse removed, it will just come back again. Just be careful.. I just dumed my Legend for my Max partially because of all the rust it had along with other problems it got over it's 230k mile lifetime...

i've got some rust on mine..............only on the rocker panels though...........and its much much worse than you've got, i had a strip of metal about 3 feet long and 3 or 4 inches wide come off underneath the passenger side doors, i guess i'm lucky thats the only place its rusty, i dont plan on fixing it, i think i'll just get some sideskirts and cover it up.

If you want to extend life of your car (I mean car as something which would move you from point A to point B ) you have two options:
- do it yourself (remove as much rust as you can; use rust inhibitor; use fiberglass patches -single of double; prepare and paint);
- bring it to the shop (cut out rusted areas; weld; paint).

Good luck!

PS: rust-over paint would last for about 5-12 month depending on how much salt/humidity it gets

That car is GONE! You will NEVER be able to fix the rust. You might cover and hide the rust for a year or two, and even that is going to be expensive. You will NEVER get rid of it. It WILL come back, and with a vengence!

Fixing mechanicals is something that needs to be done if you're going to keep it. You don't HAVE to pay anybody money to fix it if you learn how. The manifold studs aren't THAT hard to do it you have patience, time and a good set of common hand tools. The only other things you'll need are a reversible, corded drill (you need to be able to use it for a fairly long time and corded drills are smaller for those tight areas), a 90 degree chuck (http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=43623 @$13) and a set of left twist drill bits (http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=38180 @$5). That's why you need the reversible drill. It'll take you about a day for each manifold and the parts run about $60 to do both.

I'd rate this job a 3.5 out of 5 on the hardness scale....
