Audio

I need help I want to upgrade my current speaker sytem I have sony xplod front speakers and stock rear speakers I also have a crappy 250 watts thump subwoofer enclosure with 2 8" thump subs. So I want to upgrade the rear speakers and the subwoofer I currently have a 850 watt mono boss amp I just screwed it to the back of the enclosure. If you have any ideas on good economical set of rear speakers and sub enclosure sets, please post.

Thanks

Woah, you've already got rid of the stock speakers. The sky is the limit. This is more of a question for the Audio forum, or maybe a different site.

fi you have any carpentry skills you can make a custom enclosure in the back with MDF for 12's or 10's and mount the amp in that setup as well. -

First thing to do is dump the Thump and BOSS stuff.. it's crap. save your money and buy better equipment- even if you have to buy it used.

what head unit are you using?

Yeah, I agree. Even 5 year old Alpine, Eclipse, etc. stuff is going to be better than brand new Boss or Thump.

I would scan ebay for deals. You can also check the audio for sale listings here on .org. A lot of guys with 4th and 5th gens use 6.5" speakers for rear fill. When they upgrade, you can scoop up quality speakers for cheap, then get some pods from James and you will be good to go.

At very least, try local pawn shops. They will usually test the stuff right there in front of you and the ones I have dealt with are willing to bargain on prices. I got my previous sub (JL Audio 10w3) with a sealed box for $80. I thought it was messed up after a while*, so I sold it for $100 a little bit ago and bought a new Eclipse one.

(*spipedong -- there was a loose wire inside that made it rattle -- doh!)

5 years old?
ha!
My Precision Power stuff is all at least 7 years old. one of my amps is closer to 10. but they're still some of the best out there.

my subs went out of production about 7 years ago also.. but they still pound, and have the sound quality to keep up with most of the new stuff

very true!

I was just making a generalization that quality old stuff is better than junky new stuff.

Phoenix Gold stopped making my amp (M44) in about 1995 or 1996 and it's still better than most 4-channel amps out there. It's running my front speakers and my sub (at 1.7 ohms parallel) and it slams pretty good. I have the gains set at about 1/2 for the front speakers and they sound very nice, too. I actually need better front speakers, because at the time I got a good deal on some coaxials. They sound good, but if I get better components, I can turn the gain up.

build your own! (oh wait.. not too many people have access to those kinda tools)

what kinda box you want? what size sub?
for $100, you can probably get a decent box, but that's about it.
you're going to have to add that much again for a sub...
