Interchangeable Transmissions?

Interchangeable Transmissions?
Anyone know if a 1990 GXE can take a tranny from another model year? Ive been suffering from overdrive problems and have tried everything but a new tranny. Gonna hit the junker this weekend, wondering if i can swipe one from another year.

It's cheaper to do a manual swap compared to rebuilding an auto. I paid $1800 to have my auto rebuilt. Though, I only paid about $800 for all the parts to do my manual swap (new clutch, slave/master cylinder, etc). I will never own another automatic car again!

I got a 1992 Maxima SE as a hand-me-down from my girlfriend's mom. Her mechanic sucks, and as a result of never once looking at the ATF level in 120,000+ miles, the transmission chewed itself and now slips when I accelerate.
I would like to install a 5-spd manual (price, gas mileage, personal preference). Are there any particularly good resources of information on this operation? I have the Haynes manual and it's a little sparse.
