Is it my Rear Main Seal?

I've got an ever-worsening oil leak on my 93 ve. It drips when the car is parked and seems to be coming from the back part of block (nearest the firewall) on the passenger side. I've been told it probably is the rear main oil seal. Anything else it could be?.......and if it is the rear main seal anyone got some good step-by-steps on how to replace it? Thanks all

If its coming from the passenger side, its probably the front oil seal. Check around the the oil pan behind the crank pulley for any leaks. The rear main seal is covered by the tranny. Also, make sure to check your oil level, because it goes down pretty quick.

Okay......I need to do belts anyway so I'll do this seal at the same time. It looks like the leak may be coming from a little bit higher up and a little closer to the firewall than the place where the crank pulley is, but maybe when I drive the car the leaking oil splashes up and back and then drips down when it is parked. Most of the dripping comes from the idler pulley for the p/s belt and from areas a bit closer to the firewall than that. Any other possible leaking places I need to look at when I'm in there? Thanks!

Hmm.... try checking around the rear valve cover, the oil could be coming from there. If it is in fact the front main seal, the oil will probably coat a bit of the engine bay around it and some of the underbody, and you will lose about a quart or so per week. At least thats how my leak was.

p.s.- If you decide to replace the front seal, think about getting a lightened underdrive pulley from ASP Racing . It makes a noticable difference and only costs $100.

I would really look closely at the front main oil seal behind the crank pulley. When the oil drips on the pulley, it slings oil all over the place. For me, my leak wasn't coming from underneath the crank pulley. It was coming from a bolt or nut closer to the firewall. I'm not sure of any other places you can be leaking in that area of the motor. Oil pan gasket MAYBE. But check that front oil seal. Good Luck.

Is it engine oil? My Power Steering leaked. it throws all the way up the fire wall. You can get just seal kit for that. Just another place for you to look! pressure wash it good first.

yeah.....I got a little p/s fluid leak too, but this is definately engine oil and I've got a fast-diminishing oil level to prove it. Can't wait to get my udp! Anybody know of a price cheaper than $95?

for the performance, $95 is a good price, infact where did you get that? I think ASP is $99.95

probably your cam seal, the one closest to the firewall is the one that leaks, then drips down behind the timing cover and out the bottom dripping along its way down there.
