Should I Buy?

My girl is looking for her 1st car and I told her to look for a Max, and there is this one w/ black lether going for 1000, looks nice but he said the gears slip, like if you're going up a hill or something, I called him and asked him if it was the transmission but he said he did a diagnostic test and it was the "module" and he said he would take the price off to fix it. What I'm asking is if it is the module, how long do I have for the trans go give, the car has had a tune up, and oil changes, it has about 190K miles. I am going to take it to a 3rd person shop to really see if it is the module, how much is it to fix?

My tranny slips going up a hill until i take it out of overdrive and its NOT a module, its a worn out tranny. My plan is that I'm going to drive it until it goes totally or becomes a pain to drive, then I'm going to put another tranny in it. I paid $700 for my car a year ago and have driven it this way the whole time while getting 25 +/- MPG. Of course I bought mine from my mother in law and new the whole history of the car since it was new.

Should you buy it? Like said above you get what you pay for, but I sincerely doubt thats a module. If you can drive the car at 45 mph with OD on, and slam the throttle down and it slips, its he tranny. If not, maybe have a shop look at it, but if you want a fixer upper, its your choice.

Good Luck!

Has anyone else had tranny problems in a 3rd gen? Yes. Should you get it? Depends if you want it and want to fix it.

Figure another 1200 to 2000 to get the tranny rebuily. If that sounds good then go for it. I bought my 94GXE for 400 about a year and a half ago and had to put another 1600 into a rebuilt tranny. In all I am happy with the purchase.
Good luck
