Axxis Pads
how much are they asking for the pads?
you can buy 'em new from avalon racing for about $45/set.
yes, the pads are the same for fronts and rears- as long as you have discs on the back (which if you've got a GXE without ABS, you have drums in the back, so there's no need in messing with it)

Attn: Matt
Hey Matt,
Since it is about time for me to take care of the brakes on my Max, I am looking to order a set of those Axxis Pads since I do a lot of stop and go driving. I know they are $45 but I want to know the fastest way to order them since Avalon does not have a means to roder them online.

get avalon's phone number from www.avalonracing.net and call them, tell them you would like them ASAP, and you're done.
I believe they also have online ordering on their website, but it's a little hairy. I prefer just to call them and do it all over the phone. Paul is a very nice guy and you'll have no problems with ordering from them.

Ordered Pads
Matt,
I ordered the pads and I will have them by the weekend. The reason I am in a rush is that my pads are now down to 25% and I would like to ensure that braking is no longer an issue.

just be sure they're really the metalmasters before you install them. if they're not, they're not worth the $$.
I bought a set of 87=1370 beck arnley pads and they almost killed me when they went up in smoke on a drive in the mountains.

If you're down to just 25% on your pads, youv'e still got about 20% left to go! as long as your pads are wearing smoothly (not one edge worse than the other or anything), then you can run your pads almost down tot he metal before you need to change them. just never wear them out until the backing plate scrapes against the rotor. that's asking for a quick rotor death.

Matt, I learned that lesson the hard way with my Caprice.
Never will I let the brake pads wear down as badly as I did on that car.

Looks like I don't need any pads at all...
Had to take my car into the shop for regulator, and had them check the pads while it was in there. The mechanic said they're at 50% so I'll wait it out, and probably get slotted rotors instead of pads. Oh yea, I had to get a master cylander replaced because it was leaking everywhere. Unfortunatley, my brakes STILL squeak. Does anyones else's brakes squeak when there isn't even anything wrong with them?

i'll have to look into that...
I put semimetallics in the back and they always tend to squeak when I first lightly apply the pedal. It has gotten so annoying to me that I have bought OEM pads for the back. I figure its the fronts that are critical anyways so I will keep good pads on the fronts. Right now I just have some cheap semimetallic ones on the front but they never squeaked after a week of break in. BTW I got a brake caliper bebuild kit from courtesy. It looks like just the rubber stuff etc. One thing that I was hoping that the rebuild would do would be to cause the brakes to retract more when I am not on the brakes. I am worried that they are rubbing causing excessive pad wear, rotor heat, and bad gas mileage. When I pull the wheels off the brakes are so tight that it is hard to turn the hubs until I take the calipers off. What do you guys think?
