removing abs
removing abs
How hard do you guys think it would be to remove that big hunk of abs junk on the passenger's side of the engine bay? Since one of my sensors are bad and I don't feel like paying 175 dollars for one I'm just planning on taking that thing out if possible so I can free up some room for an intercooler idea that I have. If i did remove it would I just run the brake line directly to the wheels or is there some sort of distribution block located somewhere on the non-abs Maximas? Thanks in advance!
The place that I got one of my sensor's from was Felton's Nissan Auto Parts. If I remember right he charged $35 bucks shipped to Canada.

i don't even want abs really and since i'm not using i figured i'd take that thing out to save weight and also give me some room for the intercooler idea. i'll take a peek at it and compare it with my gxe which has no abs to see what i'm getting into.
It's not that easy(ie.. just taking the abs actuator out). The main brake lines are plumbed into the actuator. So you would have to rig a bunch of bypass lines. Note how many lines are plumbed into the master cylinder. Then you will go
Also ABS equipped maximas have their porportioning valves inside the actuator. Non-abs maximas have the valve inside the master cylinder. You could easily swap MCs but then you have to probably totally re-plumb the brake lines.
Don't know about you but it's out of my confort zone.

BAD IDEA trust me u dont want to mess takin out abs its a lot more than just abs unit. There are sensors valves brakelines and some abs units use a different master cylinders. Not unless u know exactly what u r doin u dont want to mess with it.
No way. I don't believe you one bit.

copy and paste into web address and look at abs theory and operations.
i still dont know if this works but ill try to paste some pages from the book to the thread when i get home. I think this might be on just the schools comp but i have the disk of books at home i can use if it doesn't work.

Master Cylinder without ABS

if you get a donor car the job ain't too bad, other wise pull ALL the ABS fuses and the bulb in the dash and keep driving.
Don't leave the ABS active with a bad sensor.
There have been instances where the ABS activated with a bad sensor and ended up with the car stopping in the middle of the intersection because it detected wheel lockup when there was none.
i'll see what i can do on the donor car becuase i'd really like to get rid of it since i'm sure its pretty heavy and i need that part of the engine bay really bad. i'll take a look at it and if i end up trying it (and accually getting it finished) i'll try getting a write up of some sort.
the thing is, i don't want it period. i need the spot that its sitting on to be clear. if i can't do it i'll just leave it how it is because i don't even want the abs to be working.
