I stopped by a local nissan dealership the other day to find out some info on some parts. When a sales rep approached me. I remember him because he sold my friend a 2001 SE. He told me that he had a good deal on a newer car if I wanted more information. His offer was on a 1999 Black SE 5spd. After talking to him about prices and working out something, he told me he could give me a good price. I have a friend that works in the service department there and he said that he'd talk to him for me. The next day the salesman told me he understood that I was friends with someone there that told him he would bring him some business. He told me that he would sell me the car for $12,500 plus my trade in. I'm thinking that this is an excellent deal for a 99 Maxima! Well, Im in quite a bit of a financial bind right now, but it will clear up fairly soon. I test drove the car and I loved it. I am spending lots of $ on repairs almost every other month on my current max and I figured that it would equal out to car payments with the new one. Although my car is payed off. I already know what I will do to the new one. I can put in all the things I have in this car (stereo, bulbs) and probably get some clears for the front and back. The salesman also said he may even be able to throw on some 2K 5 spoke rims on it for me. What do you guys think? Should I go new and improved, or should I keep my paid off max with minor body damage and future headaches? I also drive A LOT of miles (30K last year) The new car has 66K on it already! But it still drives very well. Your honest input is appreciated.

for that price, there's got to be something wrong with it, other than the 66k miles- even if it's a "deal from a friend" type of thing..
that's less than what a trade-in would be on it. you can barely get a 95 for that price with that many miles.

check for bodywork or engine work- leaking fluids, etc etc before going through with it.

But if the car is otherwise in good shape and they're just legitimately selling it really cheap, I highly recommend jumping on that deal- you won't see that one again. your max would be a good down payment, and you'd only have to borrow 8k or so after that. on a 3 yr loan, your payments will be about $230-250/mo. 4 yr loan, it'll be around $180.

so if you can afford the payments, jump on that puppy before it's gone!

There is absolutely no body damage on the car. Only one ding on the back passenger door. The car hasn't been detailed yet, but my friend does that and he said he will clean it up like new if I buy it. There are no leaking fluids and no noises in the engine. I cant even hear it when its idling. I will ask them for service records the next time I see him (probably this afternoon). IMO, the deal seems pretty legit. This dealer is very reputable too. 4 years sounds to work perfectly. Im going to get some more info and see where this goes.

Cool Cool..
if that thing was closer to me, then I would have skipped my physics exam and bought it this morning. that's a helluva deal for a '99 with a few extra miles.

I think he said the $12,500 was after the trade in, is that correct DaBoxGTI? Still sounds like a decent deal.

Looks like you mean 12.5K with the trade in. Either case, sounds great. Practically a new car, obviously all those miles are highway driven. Definitely grab it, also opt for the 2K wheels if possible. Sounds great.

sounds coool...

but.. what you should do is find out what the price is with out your trade and if it is still a good deal.. then get hte new max, and keep your 3rd gen... and youll have 2 maximas to push around.... that would be the ultimate... and remeber the good feeling of not having a car payment....

well...

After talking it over with him this morning and getting a quote for financing from the bank, we are ready to close a deal for $13K, then $4K off for my car. I would be financing $9K. I like the figures and I will be closing the deal probably by the end of the week.

This afternoon, I stopped by the dealership to show the car to my dad, and when we approached the car, there was another salesman and a girl standing next to it looking at it. I noticed the girl was a co-worker of mine who was also on her lunch break. I told her that I was buying that and then she seemed a bit disappointed, but she is getting a 95 instead. She probably would have bought it, which would have sucked, but its mine!!

Yup.. this is not the time to think with your *****.. use your head and buy the car before she does! you can show her the backseat later.
