help me indentify this part...LOOK...

Its the part behind the pulley... I looked in my service manual and they only say its a front cover..it covers the bottom part of the timiing chain...
also, is their oil in it.??Im assuming since the manual describes it as a front cover, using common sense, its a cover and their is no oil running in it...but it does cover the bottom part of the chain....

Help me out...
Thanks
Maxtuned

Ummm, if it's a cover over any part of the chain, it's got oil behind it. the chains are lubed and the cover is the part that seals it.

if you're talking about the cover behind the crank pulley then its just the front cover of the engine that covers the timing chain. i'm pretty sure there is oil behind the cover on the ve since it uses a chain.

hmm... i wouldn't know off hand since that's more of a ve guy question but i'd say you'd be fine if you put some sort of sealant on it like silicon or something similar that can resist oil.

Hmm off hand that's not good. More importantly what did you do to crack the aluminum front timing chain cover? Loose tensioner?

well..me and my brother had to take off the pulley to replace the crankshaft seal..the pulley i had was from rpmoutlet..when my bro put the pulley on, he had to hammer it on..so it was a pain to take it off..we used a crow bar...thats how I put a crack on the cover..I've been driving around now..no oil is coming out of the crack..Im assuming since its a cover, its replaceable...???right???

Crow bar, probably wasn't the best idea. Was it that tight of a fit?

Ummmm WOW! Crowbar? Yes the RPM outlet pulley is a real tight fit. If you don't have the steel sleeve installed by them, I'd keep it off and send it back so they can install one. The aluminum is too soft and will groove over time(allowing an oil leak to develope)

Anyhoo. Do NOT use a crowbar to pry the pulley off. You might break it and at the very least bend it up and put it out of balance. Rent a puller or buy a puller. I just took mine off last week(engine swap). It's best to use a puller that utilizes the two small threaded holes in the pulley. The claw type doesn't grip well and might bent the UDP's edges.

As far as the crack. I'd watch it CAREFULLY and start sourcing another front cover. You might be able to get someone to weld it if you can get it off.
